Technology Tips - Prepping for Device Returns
With the end of the school year approaching, here are some pointers to help you with device collection coming soon. Each building will communicate device return dates and details with families. Please return ALL components that were checked out to your student, such as: Chromebook, iPad, hotspot, chargers, protective iPad case, zipper carrying case Missing your charger? Take the time to look for it before the return date. There is a fee of $25 for missing chargers ($20 for iPad chargers). Device damaged? Please return it even with the damage. It is better to return the damaged device than to consider it lost. Many of the repair costs are very reasonable. It is much cheaper to repair the damage than to replace the device. Do you have a hotspot? That will need to be returned as well, including the charger. What if your student will be attending summer school? ALL devices will be collected and devices will be distributed for summer school as needed.
Robotics
I want to lift up and highlight the success of one of my robotics team members. Gabriela Veloz a Godwin High School Senior made this Rubik's Cube solver from Legos and troubleshooted her way through a very difficult code upload to program the robot to solve a Rubik's Cube no matter how it is scrambled in less than 40 moves. I have included a video (which I shortened for time purposes). If you see her please congratulate her.
Gabriela will be featured in a future issue of School News Network to celebrate and highlight her hard work as well as our Godwin Robotics Program which has expanded from a high school only team last year to a growing program with teams in multiple buildings offering a STEM experience to multiple grade levels.
My long term goal for this program is to provide every Godwin student regardless of building or grade level with the opportunity to have a hands on and exciting robotics/STEM experience should they want it.
