Phone Changes
1. You will now be prompted with the option to "press 1 for Attendance". This will send you to a specific mailbox to leave a message if your student is absent. When you leave your student's information, the absence will be entered promptly. As always, you can send a note with your student after the absence and it will be cleared.
2. We now have a separate email for all dismissal related changes. For student safety, our procedure for any changes in dismissal should be done in writing. This can be a note to the teacher in the morning, a note in a student's planner, or an email to the office.
The new email address is mcbridesecretary@sthelens.k12.or.us and it will be sent to both secretaries in the office to ensure the message is communicated to the student. Phone call changes are not typical and should be reserved for emergency only. Thank you for partnering with us to keep kids safe!

If these requirements cannot be fulfilled, we will not be allowing your child to leave. We will, however make every attempt to contact you, the parent, to assist in an alternative pick up request.
Music Memos
Music Memos
This week in music, we are continuing to review behavioral expectations, as well as building on concepts learned in previous grades. In second grade, we have begun practicing for our “Moosical,” and fourth grade has begun rehearsing for the “Pirates!” musical. Third grade is reviewing treble clef letter note names and note values, and applying this to reading and playing music. Meanwhile, fifth and sixth grades are learning bass clef lines letter note names and note values and applying this to reading, singing, and playing percussion instruments. Kindergarten recently learned “Bluebird,” and first and second grades got to practice independent performing skills by leading a drumming circle.
Blue and Sapphire Choirs are continuing rehearsals every Tuesday there is school in the music room, from 2:15 - 3:15pm. Please try to be on time to pick up your student, as best you are able (unless you have already communicated a later pickup time with me). Also, please don’t forget to call or email me (contact info can be found below), if your student will be absent for choir, so that I may mark their absence as excused. We are in the middle of rehearsing for our winter performance and every rehearsal is very important! Thank you so much for all you do to support these students.
As always, feel free to call, email, or stop by if you have questions or would just like to say “hi”!.

Attendance Encouragement
Attending school has a huge impact on student success. This year we want to make sure every student misses no more than 9 days of school, or 1 day a month. We need your help.
Some Attendance Tips to Promote Student Learning:
- Make sure your students keep a regular bedtime and establish a morning routine so they are rested and alert when they get to school.
- Turn off all electronics including TVs, phones and tablets at bedtime.
- Make sure clothes and pack backpacks are ready the night before.
- Check with our school nurse or office staff if you are not sure about when to keep your child at home due to illness.
- Avoid scheduling vacations or doctor’s appointments when school is in session.
- Talk to teachers and counselors for advice if your student feel anxious about going to school.
- Develop back up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, neighbor, or another parent to take your student to school.
Please let us know how we can best support you and your student so that they can show up for school on time every day.

Heidi Green - (McBride Staff)
Heidi Green is always flexible and willing to support staff and students in any way. Her smile goes on for days and her bubbly spirit helps everyone to feel happy around her.
Julie Nielsen & Chris Swift (Reading Team and 4/5 Classroom Assistant) These two are doing an amazing job as recess duty supervisors. You can imagine how difficult this job would be and they are wonderful! They are building relationships with students, setting expectations for behavior all the while allowing students to have fun during their recess break.
Third Grade Team (Mrs. Campbell, Mrs. Luttrell and Mrs. Stewart) - We have an awesome third grade team. They were all nominated for various things like support when there was absence, helping the Guest Teacher, giving reassurance to each other, etc. Thank you, Ladies!
Beth Davis (Resource Room) - Mrs. Davis is a wonderful addition to our Resource Room this year. She gave a wonderful strategy suggestion to a teacher when working with her student and there was success and celebration by all! Thank you, Mrs. Davis!
Allie Cox (student) Allie was willing to work together to take down the hundreds of pictures and awards, including removing thousands of staples from the big character bulletin board in the hallway. She worked so hard and on her own volition, went down the hall looking for a broom and dustpan to make sure we got all the staples before we quit. Her willingness and great attitude was wonderful.
Cathy Gray (Secretary) Cathy has been so helpful to so many staff members. Her smile to students when they approach her desk, her willingness to help parents as they walk in the door and her positive attitude makes the office a great place to walk through every day.
Katie Quick (2nd grade teacher) - Miss Quick shared a book about autism by Temple Grandin with her class. This led to one of her students recognizing herself in the behaviors and asking about autism. Miss Quick called the student's mother who said her daughter does, in fact, have an autism diagnosis. The next day, there was a respectful conversation about it. Kids in her class asked questions and the student explained how things are for her. This little girl feels accepted by others and proud of herself. Great job, Miss Quick, for fostering acceptance and love for all students in your classroom.
Sharon Shiel - (Reading Team Staff) - Mrs. Shiel helped with the Title I Reading Pizza night with her successful team. Mrs. Shiel also oversees the clothes closet and does an amazing job sorting and setting up a nice "shop" for our clothes closet.
Kerry Marshall - (counselor) - Mrs. Marshall is a warm, welcoming and safe adult for students to meet with while at school. She is a valuable resource of knowledge for staff. We are lucky to have her at McBride.
Meredith Hawkins (Resource Room) - Mrs. Hawkins is a consistent advocate for students during small groups, individual problem-solving and during recess duty!
Julie Nelson - (librarian) - Mrs. Nelson used her expertise and her willingness to help Mrs. Franz set up a document camera and computer so that Mrs. Franz could project an image she needed for the Character Trait bulletin board. This saved Mrs. Franz a lot of time! Thank you, Mrs. Nelson!
