US History Students Create Strike Signs
In Ms. Geioa's US History class, students created strike signs to explain key strikes during the Gilded Age. In groups, students created signs that included the name of the strike, date and location, the name of the union and company, the reason for the strike, the wishes of the workers, what happened (violence, government involvement), the results, and if the strike was successful or not. Groups then presented the strike to the rest of the class. Students learned about the following strikes: Great Railroad Strike of 1877, Haymarket Affair, Homestead Strike, Pullman Strike, Ludlow Massacre, Flint Sit-Down Strike, and the Memorial Dat Massacre of 1937. Students then compared the strikes noting similarities and differences.
