WINTER BREAK
UPDATE - BAND HOLIDAY CONCERT
UPDATE - IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR STUDENT COMPUTERS OVER BREAK!
Caring for your Laptop Over Break
The last thing any of us wants to think about during the winter break is work, and that includes our staff technology devices; however, making sure your laptop is ready for a rest of its own is very important.
- Perform a Shut Down - If you know you won't be touching your laptop again before classes resume, be sure to perform a complete shut down.
- Storage is Key - Never leave your laptop in a vehicle for extended periods of time, especially during a frigid break! Keep your laptop in its case and bring it indoors to a place that isn't too hot or too cold. Chargers should also be stored in your case; leaving a charger plugged in could cause a trip hazard or create a tempting chew toy for pets.
- Charge Up - Not to mention the inevitable too soon, but when break is over, be sure to charge your laptop completely so that it's ready to go for classes.

COACH JIM MCNAMEE NAMED TO THE KNOXVILLE XC HALL OF FAME
Former Oak Ridge Cross Country and Track coach Jim McNamee, from 1978-2003, was inducted into the Metro Knoxville Cross Country Hall of Fame on Monday, December 6th. This was the first class of inductees and he is the first head coach from the area to be inducted. Coach Mac won 8 state titles during his time at Oak Ridge High School, 5 boys and 3 girls. He also coached many current and former area coaches including (l-r) Catholic coach Sean O'Neill, current Oak Ridge Cross Country coach Ed Wright, Farragut coach Chelsea Osborne (Jacobs), Coach Jim McNamee, former Oak Ridge coach Allen Etheridge, and current Oak Ridge Track coach Tom Sauer. **2 members of the team that were unable to attend were Chris Cole and Phil Riemer.**
2007 TN State Cross Country Champion Boys' Team
Also inducted last night was the 2007 TN State Cross Country champion boys' team. It was the first team from Tennessee to qualify for the prestigious Nike Team Nationals in Portland, Oregon by winning the first regional qualifier in Hoover, Alabama. That team finished 18th in the entire nation that year! Members of that team were: (pictured l-r) Chris Ostrochov, John Sharpe, Ed Wright (assistant coach), Ethan McGroom, Allen Etheridge (head coach), Emerson Peacock, Maclean O'Donnell, Sam Roberts (assistant coach), and Bobby Holcombe (assistant coach). That year was also the 3rd year in a row that the boys team won the State Championship.
FAFSA - AS EASY AS 1 - 2 - 3!
43.3% OF ORHS SENIORS HAVE COMPLETED THE FAFSA!!!
LAST FAFSA NIGHT FOR SENIOR PARENTS - JANUARY 18TH
ORHS WANTS TO BE A FAFSA CHAMPION!
ORHS IS PARTICIPATING IN THE FAFSA CHALLENGE - WE WILL UPDATE THE NUMBER OF SENIORS COMPLETING THE FAFSA WEEKLY.
The Tennessee Higher Education Commission and Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation (THEC/TSAC) are excited to announce the TN FAFSA Challenge, a statewide campaign for Tennessee public high schools to increase the FAFSA completion rates among Tennessee students.
While Tennessee continues to be a leader in nationwide FAFSA completion, there is still work to be done. Students who complete the FAFSA are more likely to enroll in higher education, persist in their college coursework, and obtain a degree.
As part of the Challenge, THEC/TSAC plans to honor high schools who are able to increase FAFSA completion in their schools. Specifically, we are encouraging high schools to increase the share of their Tennessee Promise applicants who complete a FAFSA. High schools that increase their Tennessee Promise FAFSA completion rate by 5 percentage points OR have 95 percent of Tennessee Promise applicants complete a FAFSA will be designated as FAFSA Champions. We also plan to honor the high schools that have the highest FASFA completion rate and those that have the largest year over year improvement for the entire state.
