Week 27
Week 27 Notes
How quickly things change. Just a week ago we were conducting in-person instruction with your children. I would like to make sure to say "Thank you!" for your flexibility and understanding. Nobody wants the current reality, but if we keep a positive outlook and support each other, we will come out stronger in the end.
As we continue on with virtual learning after spring break, I would like to emphasize how important it is to reach out to your child's teachers. All teacher in the HHASD are required to keep virtual office hours from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM. If you send an email during that time with a question or explanation, your child's teacher will respond and provide assistance. As middle schoolers, I'm positive all children at RMS can send and receive emails and engage in video chats. Please support your child as you always do, but encourage them to reach out.
Question of the Week
Structure and routine are crucial for your children right now. This week, I encourage you to talk with your child about establishing a daily schedule. During staff meetings, I often ask "What can we all agree to live with?" when it comes to building a consensus. I would encourage you to use the same phrasing when it comes to establishing a schedule. You might ask "What hours of the day work can we agree that you will work on your school work?" and "What is an amount of time that we can both agree is ok for you to spend on your phone, playing video games, or watching movies?" Coming to an agreement and having some healthy negotiations will hopefully lead to a more peaceful house.
Stay safe and we miss you!
Thanks,
Jeff Carron

Spring Break March 23 - 27 - No Virtual Learning
Virtual Learning
Now that we’ve worked through our first week of virtual learning, it's important to note there are significant differences between virtual learning and the typical homework that your child would receive on a regular basis. Just as we receive guidance from Wisconsin DPI on in-person instruction, we have also received guidance on virtual learning. Here are some important points from that guidance that we must adhere to.
Virtual learning time is a replacement for in-person instruction. In our current scenario, the work your child is engaged in takes the place of in-person instruction.
Completion of online material and login records will serve as evidence of student attendance in virtual learning.
Virtual learning should follow the curriculum that would normally be taking place in in-person instruction.
In an attempt to manage workload for students, teachers at RMS will limit graded assignments to no more than one per core content area per week. Your child should have no more than four graded assignments a week that are mandatory.
If you are in need of assistance, your child will maintain office hours from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM each day. Many students across the district are engaging in 1-1 virtual meetings via Google Meet with their teachers already. Simply send your child’s teacher an email and the teacher can arrange the meeting time.
