"Nothing worthwhile comes easily. Half effort does not produce half results, it produces no results. Work, continuous work and hard work, is the only way to accomplish the results that last." ~Hamilton Holt
New Library Catalog System For CPS
CPS recently purchased a new district library catalog system. This year will be a learning curve for all of us but we think the faculty and students will like the new features and look forward to rolling it out to everyone in the next few months. Features now include creating individualized accounts, placing holds, reviewing account information, writing book reviews, creating video trailers and resource lists for classes.
TEDx Talk: The Future of Education
This TEDx talk by Pat Bassett captures so many topics we have discussed as a faculty---rigor, relevancy, engagement, cross curricular work, STEAM and robotics. The classroom examples he discusses are phenomenal. It may be a bit longer than the usual 15 minute TED Talks but it is worth it. http://youtu.be/y0cqrhvgBB0
Book Recommendation
This book has been on my reading list for a long time and I finally read it this summer. What factors contribute to someone's success? Is it intelligence, personality or something else? What do Bill Gates and the Beatles have in common? Why are most professional hockey players born in the winter? This book is compelling, entertaining and insightful. We have a copy in the CHS library.
Signing Up for Library
Under Computers, the Library has LAPTOP CART (#10) and LIBRARY THIN CLIENTS (#14) for a total of 24 computers. We have 14 new desktop computers in the library (Yay!)
Under Rooms, there is Library and Library Conference Room.
If you want to sign up a class just for the space (to select independent reading books), please sign up under Library.
If you want to sign up for the library space AND the laptops, please sign up in library AND under the computers.
If you would like to reserve the conference room, you may do that too via Lab Scheduler. If it is for an after school event however, please contact Maureen Dickie as she is in charge of all after school space usage (meetings, professional development, NCTA classes etc).
If you want me to show your class(es) any library resources, please contact me via phone or email and we can discuss how to best embed the instruction. I'd appreciate as much advanced notice as possible.
Any questions or problems, please let me know.
