A message from Mrs. Schnabel
Welcome to February EGP Families!
We continue to see record warm temps. Please make sure that your children are dressed for whatever weather we are having. We do go out to recess every day. There are some muddy spots as to be expected, however they are in remote spots so students have been instructed to stay away. We do not have the capability to provide multiple changes in clothing. We also encourage students to bring older shoes or boots if they are concerned to about dirty shoes.
This month our staff and students will be focusing on being Honest. We know this is a very important character trait to support our students as they grow. They will engage in discussions, role playing, and games to practice this throughout the month. You should receive a magnet with great talking points to support home conversations as well.
February is I Love to Read Month. Be on the lookout for the awesome happenings around our building this month!
Evergreen will celebrate Black History week Feb. 5-9. Our SSW team has daily activities and games to celebrate and learn. There also are some awesome special guests scheduled. Our annual National African American Parent Involvement Day breakfast is scheduled on February 15th. More details to come!
We also have our winter conferences coming up on February 8 and 13. Please watch for more information on sign-ups. We are looking forward to talking to every family about the hard work and amazing growth for your child!

You’re the Expert: How to successfully advocate for your child
Navigating the mental health system both in the medical and educational settings can be difficult or just a new experience for parents/guardians. In the latest Parent Engage 360 Podcast, Beth Lovre, a family peer educator with the National Alliance on Mental Illness Minnesota (NAMI), joined host Liz Burgard to provide information for parents/guardians on the value of parent engagement and advocacy to ensure the best care and treatment for your child.
Lovre will be the guest speaker for the next Parent Engage 360 event set for Thursday, Feb. 29 at Champlin Park High School. The event, titled You’re the Expert: How to successfully advocate for your child, will provide parents/guardians with information and resources on how parents can be an advocate for their child in the doctor’s office, the mental health system and in public education settings.
