Our school is looking forward to our 1st Promotion at Diamond Bar High School! After a year of unexpected circumstances, we are grateful to our DBHS team for extending their campus to us. We realize California's Department of Public Health (CDPH) has provided us with guidelines to follow, and we are asking for your continued partnership to ensure a safe environment for all.
Our site is stressing the importance of adhering to all safety guidelines to allow for the graduating Class of 2021's ceremony to go on as scheduled later that day. Please be sure to attend our scheduled PROMOTION INFORMATION webinar(s) on Tuesday, May 25th. Our 8th-grade counselor, Mrs. Ebel, has already sent out the Zoom link information by email on Friday, May 21st. Our 8th-grade counselor has also posted more details on her Google Classroom for students, so be sure to log in and view the information. Anyone not attending the Promotion event may view it LIVE by visiting our school's website at chaparralmiddle.org
Below is an overview of the guidelines with more information linked HERE:
- All attendees must wear masks
- Attendees must sign up in advance
- Only those who have preregistered may attend
- Staff or attendants must monitor the number of attendees
- Individuals who are sick or in isolation or quarantine must remain at home.
All attendees should be screened
A few of the reminders shared with 8th-grade families previously by email on May 3rd:
- Immediate household only will be allowed
- Individuals must be spaced 6 ft. apart (unless from the same household)
- The maximum capacity of the venue that we can use is 33%

Vaccine opportunities!
Hello Walnut Valley Families,
Walnut Valley had partnered with Mercy Pharmacy to host a COVID-19 vaccination clinic for students 12 years old and older. The family members of our students will also be welcome to schedule a vaccination appointment. On June 4 from 8 am to 11 am, Mercy Pharmacy will be administering the Pfizer vaccine in the South Pointe Middle School gymnasium. The second dose will be scheduled for June 25 at the same site. Your middle school will send another email to schedule an appointment as we get closer to the vaccination date. Thank you for your continued efforts in helping us provide a safe environment for your children.

Any student on a WAITING LIST will be contacted prior to June 7th. Reminder: Summer School will be offered ONLY virtually from June 7-July 15, 2021.
D2L offers more prep. courses!
Another exciting opportunity for our students to obtain summer enrichment programs through FLEX College Prep. Dedicated-2-Learning (D2L) is offering a link to gather interest from families who may want to explore additional courses that will expand your middle schooler's summer learning. MIDDLE SCHOOL SUMMER WRITING PROGRAM
How to Write a Great Essay! (Grades 6 -8)
This creative and personal essay online writing course curriculum was developed by a former instructor at the John Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY). It offers students a fun and engaging way to improve essay writing skills through creating a chapter autobiography.
June 21 – July 15
8 two-hour sessions (2 per week) for 4 weeks. Total instruction is 16 hours.
Monday and Wednesday, 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Complete the registration form to reserve your seat for the program. Once we confirm the minimum enrollment amount to host the class, email confirmations will be sent to all registrants, along with a link to submit your payment at that time.

- May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month in the United States to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869. The majority of the workers who laid the tracks on the project were Chinese immigrants.- May is Older Americans Month, established in 1963 to honor the legacies and contributions of older Americans and to support them
- May is Jewish American Heritage Month, which recognizes the diverse contributions of the Jewish people to American culture.
- May is Mental Health Awareness Month (or Mental Health Month), which aims to raise awareness and educate the public about mental illnesses
