SG R-II Family Connection

Parents & Guardians

Hello, SG R-II Family!

Can you believe we are nearly halfway through the first semester? This school year is just flying by, with November just around the corner! So far, this year has been filled with spirited, educational activities, and next week might be one of the busiest weeks yet! With parent-teacher conferences, Red Ribbon Week and more, we are looking forward to collaborating with families and celebrating with our students!

Recently, one of our major focuses has been on career exploration and readiness, with our older elementary students visiting local businesses, and high school students attending Build My Future Day, Job Olympics, and an internship with a film production company in our local area. This theme continues into next week with SGMS Career Week and the SGHS College & Career Information Event on Thursday, Oct. 27.

We want to thank all of our faculty and staff, as well as our local businesses and organizations, who help our students explore their interests. These experiences spark their dreams and help them to launch their plans for their futures, no matter what path they take. We appreciate your help in showing our students that each one can make a difference and pursue a path that brings them joy and fulfillment.

I hope that you all have a great weekend with family and friends, and we will see you on Monday!

Always a dragon,

Dr. Julie Flieg

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent-Teacher Conferences are right around the corner! Next Thursday, Oct. 27, students will have an Early Release Day at 1 p.m. Our Parent Teacher Conferences will then be held from 1:30 - 4 p.m., and then from 5 - 8 p.m. Our teachers, staff, and administrators are excited to get to check in with our families about their students’ progress so far this school year!

  • Families with older students — we will have a few concurring events that afternoon and evening, so be sure to read about our College & Career Information Event in #3, and Hidden in Plain View in #2 below! We would love for you to stop by these informational events!

Red Ribbon Week launches next week, and the theme is Better Things to Do Than Drugs. We have a week full of activities planned to learn about drug prevention, healthy lifestyles and coping skills!

  • SG R-II students, employees, businesses and community members will celebrate the theme through dress-up days that encourage health coping skills. See the dress-up days here!
  • Do you think you would know if your child was engaging in risky behavior? Hidden in Plain View is an interactive, educational display used to help families spot warning signs of risky activity. This display will be set up for families on Thursday, Oct. 27, starting at 4 p.m. in the Old SGMS Gym during Parent / Teacher Conferences. Learn how to spot the signs and get tips for talking with kids about the dangers of alcohol and drug use! This event is sponsored by local community group Resources to Recovery. We would like to thank this group for their support!
