No Excuses University @ Bear Creek

At Bear Creek, we are proud to be a member of the No Excuses University Network. As a No Excuses School we believe that every student has a right to be educated in a way that prepares them for college. We discuss goals, have college conversations, and end our announcements each day with the phrase "After high school comes college"!

BCE Families-

It is extremely important to be on time to school so that instructional time is not interrupted or lost.

For our remote learners: it is important that you are on time to Webex sessions. Being late might cause you to be stuck in the lobby until the teacher notices or has time to allow access to the room.

Parents-please help your child login at the appropriate time. When the teacher is teaching in-person and remote learners at the same time it is difficult to monitor students coming into the Webex room late.

Tips for Remote Learners and Parents

I appreciate your patience and support in helping your student to get logged in and started with ClassLink, Seesaw, and WebEx this week. I want to provide a gentle request that while it may be tempting to sit next to your student or observe the live lessons, we encourage you to give your student the developmentally appropriate space to engage and grow as a learner. These are the same expectations we would have if we were in a face-to-face environment and we appreciate your partnership in cultivating a similar environment at home.

Important Updates

Please review the In-Person Plan carefully as we have had to adjust many of our procedures that you are probably used to. I want to highlight a few of the big changes below:

Arrival & Dismissal: Use the carline for dropoff and pickup. Parents should not be parking and walking up-either from the parking lot or from across the street. The only walk-ups should be those parents that choose to walk from their homes. We are highly encouraging everyone to use the carline for safety and to allow for proper social distancing.

Limited Visitors: for the safety and wellness of our school staff and student body school visitors are extremely limited. No visitors for lunch and fast food deliveries are prohibited. Parents will not be allowed in the foyer at arrival or dismissal.

Doors Open: doors will open at 7:25 am for students to report directly to class. Due to health guidelines students are not allowed to wait in the cafeteria or gym this year. Doors will open at 7:20 for those that eat breakfast at school. Please plan to drop your child off between 7:25-7:40.

Health Screening Daily

As we prepare to welcome students on campus beginning Tuesday, September 8, I wanted to remind all parents of the need to pre-screen your student for signs and symptoms associated with COVID-19 before bringing your student to school. The signs and symptoms are to screen for are:

  • Feeling feverish or a measured temperature greater than or equal to 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit

  • Loss of taste or smell

  • Cough

  • Difficulty breathing

  • Shortness of breath

  • Fatigue

  • Headache

  • Chills

  • Sore throat

  • Congestion or runny nose

  • Shaking or exaggerated shivering

  • Significant muscle pain or ache

  • Diarrhea

  • Nausea or vomiting

If your child demonstrates any of the above signs or symptoms, they must stay home, and you need to report to the campus nurse the signs or symptoms your child is exhibiting. In the event that your child has a fever, they must be kept home from school until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication. Please do not give fever reducing medication and send your child to school. Additionally, please do not send your child to school if they have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, or are test-confirmed with COVID-19.

Campus Nurse Updates

Medication Permit/Physician's Form

We have had supportive parents indicate that they would like to donate disinfecting products for their child’s classroom or campus. The District must ensure that all disinfecting products meet the health and safety standards established by the Environmental Protection Act. For this reason, please do not send disinfecting products to the campus. As we assess campus needs in the following weeks, we will communicate ways in which our generous parents and community may assist.

Counselor's Corner

Dear Parents,

What a great week back! We've loved seeing some of our students in person! We are also thrilled to continue seeing the sweet faces of our remote learners! If you ever want to change your student from In-Person to remote, please email me at any time. Changing from remote to In-Person can only be done every 9 weeks.

This month we are focusing on Kindness. I will be going into the classrooms to deliver lessons on Kindness and I will video those same lessons for remote learners. Here is the monthly newsletter for Kindness.
