MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Hanby Families:

I am excited to see a return of all students every week, beginning on the 12th of this month. This has been such a year of change; this next step is an important one to our recovery from missed time. Thank you for being patient with communication through these changes. I am also glad to announce a very busy April schedule.

With the return to in-person, we are looking at bringing back some traditions at Hanby. We recently had students apply, and we awarded Gold Cards to those students who maintain good grades, good citizenship, and show responsibility. Gold Cards give students access to certain campus privileges and awards. We also selected this year’s National Junior Honor Society Members, those students who have displayed excellence in Academics, Citizenship, and Community Service. Both lists of those students are part of this newsletter.

Hanby’s Cross Country season is underway. Our runners will be competing until the end of the month. Then, we will begin our track season. I would encourage all students to go out for track. There is a wide range of events and everyone can participate. Please make sure that your child signs up with their 1st period teacher.

Each spring we begin thinking about our transition to the high school for our 8th graders and the transition for incoming 6th graders from our elementary schools. For our 8th graders, they will be visiting Crater High School during their school day on April 15th. Students will be introduced to the three schools and they will be given information about scheduling and registering for the next school year. The high school administrators will be coming to Hanby in May to help students schedule. There is no parent information night this year due to restrictions, but the schools will be producing information for parents. As soon as that is available, we will be getting that out on ParentSquare.

I will be visiting Patrick, Sams Valley, and Jewett 5th grade classes May 10th for my Future Huskies Visit, and talking with students about Hanby. Incoming 6th grade students will then visit May 27th on Campus. We will be having a 6th grade parent night around registration this summer.

As you know, every year we have an 8th grade celebration at the end of the year. This event celebrates our 8th graders and we present certificates and end of the year awards. Last year we were unable to do this because of restrictions. This year, we are tentatively planning on holding the event outside at Crater High School’s Stadium. It will need to be during the school day, and with current restrictions we would only be allowed to have each student have two guests. We are hoping by the time of the event, restrictions will change and we will be able to have a larger number per student. The tentative date is June 10th. I am determined to hold an event however possible, but many factors will need to fall into place. Look for updated information in May.

With students back in classrooms we are working hard to get students where they need to be for the transition to their next grade. There is a lot of work to do but I have faith in our students and staff. Again, thank you for your continuous support!

NOAH DORNBUSCH Receives MathCounts Award

He took first place in the chapter competition for the second year in a row, qualifying to return to the state competition, where he improved his ranking. Due to the pandemic, all competitions were held online.

La Clinica Health Center at Hanby

Many of our families are already aware that Hanby has a health center on site. La Clinica is located downstairs in our main building and is available to our students, as well as students from Sams Valley and Patrick.

La Clinica has a nurse on site M, T, Th, F during school hours, as well as a Mental Health Therapist. A Nurse Practitioner is available at the health center on Mondays, and is able to conduct well-child exams and sports exams.

School-required immunizations and flu shots are available at La Clinica.
