What is the Media and Media Literacy?
When you think of media what are the things that pop up in your head? Media is all about communication by using phones, internet, television, newspapers, and radios to be entertained. Without media it would be hard to interact with people and to share information/ ideas. It must have been hard back then to not have media because it was hard to access and learn about important subjects. By using Media we can help protect them from pressures from advertising and other media forms to smoke, drink, use drugs, have sex, etc. We need the media in order to help build our communication skills. Media is one of the most important forces in our culture. Most people use technological devices, internet, and mobile devices because it’s faster to get better content anytime and anywhere which is the “New Media”. The “Old Media” is using the newspapers and magazines. Media literacy is the ability to understand how mass media work, how they produce meanings, how they are organized, and how to use them wisely. It’s Important to know how to use the media because you need to understand and evaluate the communication of the media. Media literacy is to empower people to understand the mass media and how it works so that they can be in control of this important aspect of their own lives. Los Angeles News says that Media Literacy is a 21st century approach to education. Media literacy education may provide a type of protection to children and young people by helping them make good choices in their media habits.

Hyundai Super Bowl Commercial
Hyundai is the 2014 Super Bowl commercial exhibited that the new superior genesis 5.0 car has the capability to contain an automatic emergency brake. Hyundai supports its postulation by having a commercial that showcases a protective father that continually keeps his ungainly son from sustaining physical injuries. The company’s purpose is to confirm parents who have kids that are old enough to drive can endorse the choice of the genesis car because of the automatic emergency braking system and that it’s an applicable choice so that their kid(s) would be safe from getting into an accident. The company approaches their commercial in a humorous way so that parents decrease their supervision and teenagers gain more freedom.
Black People Can Swim
Compton- A report published Friday that dozens of young African Americans who lived in the Savannah Hills community have died by drowning in a 3ft pool. The kid’s resolution was to fix the solution that black people can swim.
According to the findings only three have survived from the incident, but got arrested for not following the pool rules.
"We tried to prove a point that anyone can swim and that we have the ability and strength to keep ourselves up on the surface," said Starletta who predicted that her 24inch Brazilian hair was the reason why she almost drowned.
In addition the pool signs in Compton clearly states that only people who are lighter than a paper brown bag are allowed to swim in the community pools. The signs were not implicit by most people, but the owners of Compton communities believed so.
Many people find the situation shocking and drawled our attention that we even had survivors; it caused hundreds of people to rethink/restate their opinion.
"We survived didn’t we? The three of us established that African Americans can swim. I’m tired of spraying myself with the water hose, I aint no dog and hell this rule is killing us by trying to survive in this heat. What my mama always told me that we all look the same in the dark" stated 20 year old Jerome, the oldest survivor.
These kids have proclaimed that it's not about the apperences, it's all about talent.
President Lincoln
On April 14, 1865, President Lincoln was going to attend the play Our American Cousin at Ford's Theater as the American Civil War was drawing to a close. The assassination plan occurred five days after the commander of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia, General Robert E. Lee, surrendered to Lieutenant General Ulyssess S. Grant and the Union Army of the Potomac, ending the American Civil War. Lincoln was the first American president to be assassinated. On the day of the assignation plan by John Booth, Lincoln had told his bodyguard, W. H. Crook that he had been having dreams of him being murdered for three straight nights. Cook advised Lincoln not to go that night to Ford's theater, but Lincoln said he had promised his wife they would go, but he would be more aware and on the lookout for his safety. The assassination plan of Lincoln was planned and carried out by the well-known stage actor John Wilkes Booth, as part of a larger conspiracy in a bid to revive the Confederate cause and was a fervent believer in slavery and white supremacy. Booth was a well-regarded actor who was particularly loved in the South before the Civil War. During the war, he stayed in the North and became increasingly bitter when audiences weren't as enamored of him. After failing in two attempts earlier in the year to kidnap the President, Booth decided Lincoln must be killed. Booth and his group also decided to kill Lincoln, Vice President Andrew Johnson, and Secretary of State William Seward on the same evening. The other targets escaped their death. Lewis Powell, one of Booth's accomplices, went to Seward's house, stabbed and seriously wounded the Secretary of State, but Seward survived. Another accomplice, George Atzerodt, could not bring himself to attempt to assassinate Vice President Johnson. The assassin, Booth jumped onto the stage and only shot President Lincoln on his high right shoulder, but thought he was dead and shouted what is reported to be "The South is avenged”. Booth breaks his leg, but escapes by horseback. Lincoln is taken to the Peterson boarding house, across the street; President Lincoln survived from the gun shot. After the incident, President Lincoln had the thought to pretend that he was dead in order to keep him and his family safe because there were still some southerners who would want him dead. Vice President Andrew Johnson had become president, but President Lincoln was still behind the scene secretly to help with the Vice President decision makings for the United States. When the troops finally caught up with Booth at his barn on April 26, they gave him the option of surrendering before the barn was burned down Booth remained in the barn as it went up in flames. Booth was then shot and killed in the burning barn by Corporal Boston Corbett. On July 7, George Atzerodt, Lewis Paine, David Herold, and John Surratt's mother, Mary (were part in the assassination group) were hanged in Washington.
I choose to rewrite this because I wish Booths assassination plan didn't succeed to kill President Lincoln. President Lincoln made a huge impact for this country and he had the potential and thrive. If Linocoln survived this assassination, I feel that the slavery segregation and laws would have ended sooner.
"Airplanes"- B.O.B feat. Hayley Williams
This song would be a perfect theme song for a movie version of 1984 because this song is about how B.O.B misses the old days, when he used to rap just for the sake of rapping, when the world was way simpler, when songs had meanings, and none of that glamorous living madness which relates to the character Winston because he lived in a difficult dystopian world that had no meaning and that life was all about having power. The song "Airplanes" is a song of reminiscing about the old times. I agree with this song being about how music has changed in a negative disturbing way because artists are doing anything to get their fans attention which resembles to the book on how the world has altered to a controlling undesirable unit because of the party would do anything to create a better cured world. I also think the 'airplanes' part is about the difference between real and superficial things. The chorus part of the song replays “you can pretend airplanes are stars and can make a wish on them” which exaggerates that you can create anything in your mind to give yourself hope which relates an example from the beginning of the book when Winston would create in his mind that O’Brien could be a rebel to the party just by overthinking and reading some of his body language to give himself hope that he’s is not the only one who’s against the party.
[Chorus: Hayley Williams]
Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky are like shooting stars?
I could really use a wish right now
Wish right now
Wish right now
Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars?
I could really use a wish right now
Wish right now
Wish right now
[Verse 1: B.o.B]
Yeah, I could use a dream or a genie or a wish
To go back to a place much simpler than this
'Cause after all the partyin' and smashin' and crashin'
And all the glitz and the glam and the fashion
And all the pandemonium and all the madness
There comes a time where you fade to the blackness
And when you starin' at that phone in your lap
And you're hopin' but them people never call you back
But that's just how the story unfolds
You get another hand soon after you fold
And when your plans unravel in the sand
What would you wish for if you had one chance?
So airplane, airplane, sorry I'm late
I'm on my way so don't close that gate
If I don't make that then I'll switch my flight
And I'll be right back at it by the end of the night
[Chorus: Hayley Williams (B.o.B)]
Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky are like shooting stars? (Shooting stars)
I could really use a wish right now (Wish right now)
Wish right now (Wish right now)
Wish right now (Wish right now)
Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars? (Shooting Stars)
I could really use a wish right now (Wish right now)
Wish right now (Wish right now)
Wish right now (Wish right now)
[Verse 2: B.o.B]
Yeah, yeah, somebody take me back to the days
Before this was a job, before I got paid
Before it ever mattered what I had in my bank
Yeah, back when I was tryin' to get a tip at Subway
And back when I was rappin' for the hell of it
But nowadays we rappin' to stay relevant
I'm guessin' that if we can make some wishes outta' airplanes
Then maybe yo maybe I'll go back to the days
Before the politics that we call the rap game
And back when ain't nobody listen to my mixtape
And back before I tried to cover up my slang
But this is for the hater, what's up Bobby Ray?
So can I get a wish
To end the politics
And get back to the music
That started this?
So here I stand and then again I say
I'm hopin' we can make some wishes outta' airplanes
[Chorus: Hayley Williams (B.o.B)]
Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky are like shooting stars? (Shooting stars)
I could really use a wish right now (Wish right now)
Wish right now (Wish right now)
Wish right now (Wish right now)
Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars? (Shooting stars)
I could really use a wish right now (Wish right now)
Wish right now (Wish right now)
Wish right now (Wish right now)
[Outro: B.o.B {Hayley Williams}]
I could really use a wish right now {oh, oh-oh oh}
I-I-I could really use a wish right now
Like, like, like shootin' stars {oh, oh... oh}
I-I-I-I could really use a wish right now

Entry #7
I am so grateful to have had this this Social Media Literature class with Mr.Zopf this year; I feel like I was the young grasshopper and have mastered all of my tasks. This semester I have learned so much and I will be taking away some of the learning tools like how to write a précis and how to become a better writer, and learning about the six word memoirs that help figure out what I am as a person. When I look back on my older smore entries my writing has improved over the past few months because I have learned how to strengthen my vocabulary and how to correct most of my grammar. This class was different than the other Language Arts classes that I took because I understand more about our economics, our government, different cultures, and how the media works which helped me think outside the box and to have a more understanding of how the world works. This class was more of a visual class because we watched videos like V for Vendetta, Jimmy Fallon show, 1984 Room 101, and more which had given me a better understanding on our educational topics. For example I have watched the V for Vendetta multiple times and I never quite understood the movie until I watched it in this class and learned all the possible conclusions about the governments. What could be done differently in the future to make the class better is to read more dystopian and economical novels because I have enjoyed learning some of the inspirational and moving subjects that I will be using in my writings in the future. I would also recommending doing more writing projects because I believe learning how to write a decent strong worded essay is the main essential thing in college.
