World Down Syndrome day is nationally recognized on 3/21/16. McKinley would like to show our support by participating in some school spirit.
Here's a quick view of what McKinley has planned:
Monday- Wear LOTS OF SOCKS, mismatched socks- to represent the uniqueness in everyone. LOTS OF SOCKS is the campaign logo for World Down Syndrome Day.
Tuesday- Watch and learn about friendships with some short videos that will be shown in classes
Wednesday- students will join in a sock-project with classmates & find things they have in common
Thursday- wear blue or yellow in support of DS awareness and we'll share supportive stickers with all classrooms.
THANK YOU for spreading awareness and support!

High Interest Day Volunteer Opportunities, Registration and Donation Information
Last week your student(s) received important information about High Interest Day. 1st through 5th graders should have brought home a single page Class Selection Sheet, a listing of all 31 classes being offered and a yellow Volunteer Form. If you are missing any of these documents, you can access them here. Class selections and volunteer forms are due back to school by March 24th. Please contact Heidi Engbring at hengbring@wi.rr.com if you have questions. Thanks.
Several of our most popular classes require items easily found where you shop. Please consider signing up to donate one or more of the items requested in this SignUp Genius link below this section. If you can’t join us on April 22nd, it’s a great way to be a part of the fun.
We also need volunteers to bring in drinks, baked goods, fruit and treats for the hardworking staff, presenters and volunteers who help make High Interest Day possible. Please use the following SignUp Genius link to select which item(s) you can provide. Thank you for contributing to this special day!

We the People Fundraising
Dear McKinley Families,
At Wauwatosa West High School, a class known as “We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution,” competed in a state competition at Marquette Law School on January 9th. This competition is a simulated congressional hearing before judges, demonstrating students’ understanding of the Constitutional principles of our government. The students were judged on understanding, constitutional application, reasoning, supporting evidence, responsiveness, and participation.
Three McKinley alumni, Simon Ng, Eileen Reetz, and Libbi Fassbender, were part of the team that won the state championship and will be representing the state of Wisconsin at national hearings in Washington D.C. on April 23-April 25. In addition to working hard to prepare for the national competition in Washington, their team of 29 students also has the tremendous task of raising $60,000 in the next ten weeks to ensure that our entire team may travel together to the national hearings. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for them to represent Wauwatosa and the State of Wisconsin.
The McKinley Messengers are hoping the McKinley community can help support these students. Therefore, donations can be sent to Chad Mateske at Tosa West. Checks should be made out to Tosa West with ‘We the People’ in the memo section. Donations and messages can also be submitted through their secure GoFundMe website at gofundme.com/t9xfgyxc.
Sincerely,
McKinley Messengers
