Principal's Note
We will be striving to add more positive communications coming home concerning good behaviors we see each day at PVES. This year, we are introducing Panther PAWS as part of our positive behavioral system. Staff members will fill out PAWS slips for students we see modeling positive behaviors in the building. Each Friday, I will randomly draw some slips to read to the student body. In addition, I will help those students make a positive phone call home to let you know they are being recognized. We will then send home all the slips that were collected that week so you can see the good things your child is doing at school. Finally, each classroom will be nominating a Student of the Month. This will be a student who is consistently modeling the 5 Prairie View Guidelines. That student will get his/her name in the lobby for the month and will have lunch with me. We are excited to recognize these good behaviors in our students and hope you enjoy the good news coming home!

Specials Report - Art Classes
My name is Beth Engelking and I will be your child's art teacher. Kindergarten has art for 30 minutes a week and grades 1-6 have art for 60 minutes a week. All students need an art shirt for art class and please make sure that your child is not wearing their "Sunday Best" on art day. If you ever have any questions or concerns during the school year, please don't hesitate to contact me.
My main goal and mission as an art teacher is to teach basic skills per our art curriculum and to expose students to as many mediums, techniques, artists, and processes as possible. Please ask your child what they are doing and learning in art class. This week, we focused on the rules of the art room and where supplies are kept. We also started on a Fire Safety Poster which will be judged by the NPFD in October. In addition, students that were not able to add their painted fingerprint to our school masterpiece were able to do that.
Listed below are some of the highlights of the art program here at Prairie View.
ARTISTS OF THE MONTH - Each month, three Prairie View students will be chosen to be our "Artists of the Month". These artists will have their name and artwork hung in the art room for the entire school to see. In addition, Mrs. Blue will announce their names on announcements, they will receive a certificate, and they have the privilege of sitting in the teacher's chair during art class.
ARTSONIA - Artsonia is our online art gallery. This amazing website contains a gallery for each student at Prairie View. Parents and friends are encouraged to join the student's fan club and make positive comments. In addition, Artsonia has a gift shop which sells various items with your child's artwork on it. Prairie View receives 15% from these sales to spend on art related products. Be sure to visit Artsonia.com.
If you are not already signed up for Artsonia, information will be coming home explaining the online permission slip and how you can get the gallery started. Thanks for your cooperation with this.
WORKING HARD SLIP WINNER - Each month I choose a slip from our box. The chosen winner receives a $5.00 gift card to Culver's. Ask your child about this program.
SPRING ART SHOW - I hope to see you all at our annual art show which includes a piece of artwork from each student. It is always a fun time and students really enjoy all of the activities.
CONFERENCES - Please feel free to come and say hello during conferences in October! I would love to show you what your child has been working on and how they are progressing.
