EPSD Fall 2021 COVID Protocol

Community Update: July 23, 2021

Back to School 2021

Late Tuesday, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) released updated COVID-19 guidance for PK-12 schools. EPSD Staff are reviewing this new guidance and consulting with the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment (LCDHE) on our back to school plans. We will share EPSD’s finalized fall protocols as soon as possible, before the start of the new school year. Here is what we know at this time.

Due to current health conditions and Larimer County’s success with vaccinations (almost 68% of residents ages 12 and older have at least one dose of the vaccine), you will see that some protocols are more relaxed this school year, compared with the 2020-21 school year.

It is important to keep in mind that these protocols could become more restrictive again, depending on how COVID-19 conditions may change in our county and the Estes Park community over time. The vaccination rate will have an additional impact in the varied tiers of response to school outbreaks and quarantine procedures as well.

Although all of the EPSD protocols are not yet finalized, we can share the following:

  • EPSD is strongly encouraging but not requiring staff or students to get COVID-19 vaccines. Those who are fully vaccinated (14 days from their last dose) will NOT be quarantined if exposed.

  • EPSD is a mask-friendly district. Masks are highly recommended and supported for people who are unvaccinated, following Colorado’s current public health order. Depending on outbreaks or other high-risk activities, masks may be required indoors.

  • We will continue hand washing and frequent cleaning.

  • Individuals are encouraged to remain at least 3 feet away from non-household contacts when possible.

  • Continue to self-monitor; anyone experiencing symptoms should stay home. EPSD will follow CDPHE’s updated Return to Learn guidance.

  • When outbreaks occur, EPSD will work with LCDHE to determine the appropriate response. This could include masks indoors, additional distancing, testing, contact tracing and quarantining.

  • EPSD encourages use of outdoor spaces and ventilation.

Those interested in a 100% online or hybrid option for the year may consider attending the Estes Park Remote Learning Academy. The last day to register for this options is Friday, August 13th. For more information, please contact Mary Barron.
