MoB (Matters of Business)
Edgewood's Weekly Staff Update for the week of 9/10/18
We are committed to the journey of developing EACH child to be an inspired learner and a caring, contributing citizen.
Learning Notes
Our parent surveys last year indicated that our parents weren't clear on what their children were expected to learn. Back to School Night is our response.
The schedule is as follows:
6:00-6:15--Principal's Welcome in the Cafeteria. I'll talk about the Behavior Reminder Forms, safety, our school's goals/foci, and introduce the EHSA.
6:20-6:40: Classroom Teacher Presentation #1
Your presentation should address:
- The academic expectations (think big ideas/goals) for your grade level. (Your work with promise standards may help with this). It'd be great if parents could see examples of texts kids should be able to read/work they should be able to do as well.
- Social expectations for your grade level
- An explanation of how your child's day looks
- An explanation of how you'll communicate with them; what they can expect from you
- Any other fun things (e.g. field trips that you'll go on, etc.)
6:40-6:50: Transition
6:50-7:10: Classroom Teacher Presentation #2 (Repeat of your first presentation
7:10-7:30: Individual Questions & Follow-up
7:30: Everyone Out--Doors Closed
Non-classroom teachers, please be available to help parents get to different places, and to answer questions following the 1st presentation. I will invite parents to stop by to meet you as well.
TCB (Taking Care of Business)
- The STAR window opens 9/17. Please aim to have tested your students before our first data days (10/2--2nd and 5th, 10/3--1st and 3rd, 10/4--4th and 5K)

- At our Staff Meeting Wednesday, grade levels will share their promise standards and corresponding common formative assessment plans that they have so far. We'll have an opportunity to look at others examples, and provide feedback.
- Can you say our mission by memory yet? It's at the top of this newsletter!
Upcoming Data Days (See Specific dates below)
What data will we use to make this decision?
- STAR scores for Grades 2-5 (the window opens 9/17; please have your students tested by your data day)
- Running Record information: What are specific strengths and areas of need for these students? (You may not have done a running record for everyone by this date, but you should have done one for the students you know/have a hunch are below).
- Baseline assessments you've done related to your promise standards
At our next round in December, we'll focus on our students who are approaching/surrounding benchmark. In March, we'll revisit our students significantly below. '
