Our apologies...AGAIN. (Another time change)
We received and email this week where the time has changed once again. We would like to apologize once again about any confusion this causes with the times on the Wax Museum on the Portrait of a Graduate evening. The times are as follows (officially):
Wax Museum: 6:00 - 6:30 p.m. in the gym and cafeteria
Portrait of a Graduate (Open House): 6:30 - 7:15 p.m.
The most important things...
- The Wax Museum is almost here! Please see below.
- For any parents of students who were tested for GT this year. Final testing is happening within the next week and will be completed by March 6th. Decision letters will be mailed home on April 1st.
- We are still finding students who are ill-prepared for the weather. Please check the weather in the mornings. Last week we went from the 60's to the 30's in the matter of hours. We go outside if it is above 38 degrees. Please make sure that your child is prepared for the chilly days that still lie ahead.
WAX MUSEUM IS ALMOST HERE!
Q: What is the Living Wax Museum?
A: Students dress as the historical figure they have researched and read a short speech they have prepared about why their person is important.
Q: When and where does the Living Wax Museum take place?
A: Thursday, March 5. Students will come to school on the morning of Thursday, March 5 dressed as their historical figure. They will parade through the halls of O.C. Taylor and have the opportunity to practice reading their speech to other students. After dress rehearsal students will change clothes and proceed with their day.
Students will return to school in the evening for Open House dressed as their historical figure. Students will meet by 6:00 p.m. in the gym (Dagger and Banana Splits) or cafeteria (Dickinson and Osborne) and read their speeches for family and friends.
Q: What do I need to do to help my child prepare for this?
A: Help your child create or find an outfit that resembles what their historical figure might have worn (or wear if they are currently living).
Q: Do I need to help my child write his/her speech?
A: No. The speech will be written at school.
Q: Does my child need to memorize their speech?
A: No. Students will have a note card with their speech on it. Students will be able to read their speech from the note card.
Q: Can my child bring props?
A: Yes...and no. Students may bring small props they can carry to help create their character unless it involves weaponry. Anything that resembles a weapon will not be allowed. We ask that props do not make noise or contain tiny pieces that can easily be lost.

GCISD: Lead 2.0
"In GCISD we have developed a Portrait of a Graduate. There are five attributes and critical skills each GCISD graduate entering a career or college should have. The Portrait of a Graduate is a community and district collaboration aimed at setting students up for success. In this video, we highlight the attribute of: Global Citizen."
