Principal's Weekly Update
Term 2 Week 9
RAISE Goal: to show integrity by doing the right thing (even when no one is watching)
Te reo phrase of the week: Kei a wai _____? Who has got ___?
Kia ora,
This week was ‘support staff week’ for us at Matapu School. Our Support staff are made up of teacher aides, office administrators, cleaners, and caretakers. We are extremely lucky to have a talented team of people and hugely appreciate the wonderful job they do in helping our teachers, students, and whanau out.
Lego Robotics Winner
Well done Mrs Guest! A few weeks ago Mrs Guest entered our school in the School-Gen (Genesis Energy) competition on Facebook in the hope of winning $3000 worth of Lego robots. Amazingly, we won! They will hopefully arrive at our school shortly and be put to good use in all of our classrooms.
Learning Conferences
Just a reminder that our learning conferences are coming up in week 11 of this term, on Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th June. Please make a booking with your child’s teacher by clicking on the following link: https://www.schoolinterviews.co.nz/code?code=wxwut. If you are unable to access it online, please make an appointment at the school office. Please remember that school finishes at 2 pm on both of these days.
Guitar Lessons
Starting next term we would like to offer our students the opportunity to learn the guitar. The lessons will be with Ben McLeod and cost $120 per term. Ben will take small groups of students and the lessons will take place between 1:45 - 2:45 pm on Tuesdays. If there is high demand, Ben is happy to set up additional days. If you would like your child to learn the guitar please sign up at the school office by Friday 26th June. Your child will need their own guitar (¾ size recommended) and a clearfile.
Hikoi o Kereru Ngahere (the journey of the kereru)
You might have noticed all the work going on in the maize paddock behind Room 6, led by Kate and the team at Matapu Preschool our amazing outdoor area is coming together. Our Rangatira Taiao (Enviro Leaders) have been helping out with the planting and even spread some calf bedding around this afternoon. We can’t wait for it to be finished!

Room 3
It has been a fantastic week in Room 3, we have had a lovely new student join us and lots of students have been helping her out. It has also been great to see so many students helping each other with multiplication this week.
Over the last couple of weeks we have been working on warm and cool colour art. The students coloured in pictures, separating the warm colours and cool colours so they would contrast.

Lachie's words: cow, rabbit, pizza, water, knee.
The cow and the rabbit were friends. They went to a pizza shop for dinner. After dinner they went to bed. In the morning the cow fell over in the water and hurt his knee.
Sivarah-Rose's words: hand, heart, apple, suitcase, slide.
I put my hand on my heart and thought, "I wonder if it feels like an apple". Then we went on holiday and I jammed my finger in my suitcase. Then I went on a slide and it was hot.
Lucinda's words: tyre, eyepatch, cellphone, mop, ladybug.
One day I accidentally mopped a ladybug. I called the vets on my cell phone.
On the way they had a flat tyre. When they arrived I saw one of them wearing an eye patch.
