Allied Plan
The US. along with the rest of the Allies had the plan to "Defeat Hitler First." Most of Americans forces were station in Europe. In the Pacific the Allied came up with the strategy called "Island Hopping." Then they used the islands as bases for airstrikes.
Axis Strategy
Germany want to defeat the Soviet Union in order to gain control of their oil fields. Then they wanted to force Britain out of the war through a bombing campaign. Then after pearl harbor Japan invaded Philippines and Indonesia. Then Japan had plans to invaded Hawaii and Australia.
Major Battles
North Africa: El Alamein
Germany had threaten to take Egypt and the Suez Canal but they had been defeated by the British and cause them from gaining access to the Middle East.
Europe: Stalingrad
Thousands of Germany soldiers were killed or wounded in a months long siege of the Russian city. The defeat here ultimately lead to Germany defeat.
Pacific: Midway
The battle of Midway was the turning point of the war in the Pacific. This is what started the plan For island hopping.
Europe: D-Day
The US forces were under command of General Eisenhower. They had landed in France to take it back from the Germans.
