WBMS Friday Notes

Week 17 Recap 2018

Reflections from Ms. Perkins

WBMS Parents and Guardians –

There have been so many wonderful events taking place at WBMS lately – field trips; musical concerts; academic, altruistic, and athletic competitions and awards; interactive lessons; philanthropic efforts; and so much more! It’s hard to select just a couple to highlight because they are all meaningful.

Last week many of our students participated in The Daffodil Project, an international effort to plant 1.5 million daffodils to honor the 1.5 million children who lost their lives in the Holocaust. I am proud to say our community planted 500 daffodils in the front of our school and has pledged to plant more each year. It was cold but our students were out there digging, planting, and spreading love. Thank you to the staff and parents who joined them. There will be an official dedication ceremony in the spring when the flowers bloom.

Today our whole school participated in the annual Desktop Stores excitement! Thank you to the parents who decorated our building, supported our 7th graders at home as they prepared for the BIG event, and visited our school today to shop. It was fabulous to witness the delight of the sellers and shoppers! I was impressed with our students’ creativity and craftsmanship and grateful to our staff and parents for supporting this huge cross-curricular project.

As we look forward and prepare for the winter season, please take a moment to review the names on your emergency contact list. In the event we need to dismiss early, we can only release a student to someone on his or her emergency contact list. We have reviewed our school’s early dismissal plans and improved them from last year. (Of course, we hope we will not need them!)

Enjoy the weekend and stay warm, Jaguars!

Congratulations to our Fulton County Honor Band

Congratulations to the following students for making it into the Fulton County Honor Band. This is quite an accomplishment as each of these students had to perform a series of memorized scales, prepared etude and sight read a piece of music in front of a panel of judges.

In addition, WBMS will have 6 students represent the school at the 2nd round State Level Audition in Perry, GA. These students are indicated by an asterisk.

I am very proud of these students and this accomplishment.
