A Message From Mrs. O'Shaughnessy
Happy February!! I hope everyone is safe, healthy and happy. We are excited to kick off this very full, very eventful (even though it is the shortest) month. Who knew we would start this month off with a MAJOR SNOWSTORM!! With the dawn of remote learning, the decision to "close schools" is much different from years passed. The late night or early morning announcement we anticipated has vanished, and the transition to learning remotely has become the norm. As a mother, I know how hard those days were to manage, the last minute call, so the Mayors early decisions have given us some notice. We still face that closure call when it comes to multiple Covid-19 cases. Last weeks call and subsequent days are communicated to schools in real time. I will be inviting someone from Central to speak at my next Coffee With Mrs. O'Shaughnessy to explain the process and decision making. Again, I applaud all of the families, as 2020 and 2021 are so challenging for families. If you have any questions or concerns about any of the communication you receive, please always feel free to reach out to me anytime.

Black History Month
Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Also known as African American History Month, the event grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating Black history.

National Guidance Counselor Week
We are so lucky to have the best guidance counselor in the city!! Mr. Canales is the epitome of what a guidance counselor should be. He is always available for the students and their families in times of need. He is a caring counselor to his one on one students, he is a partner to many classes for support and he is part of our Social Justice Committee as well as our SMILE Committee. This year his radio station PS88 fm-ly has been the platform to introduce conversations around diversity and culture and awareness. He never rests! This week, share your love and gratitude with Mr. Canales! Please add your wishes to this padlet. Let's make him feel the appreciation!
