Fall Edition 2022
September 2022 ~ Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

Each Grade Level is Assigned a Hispanic Country to Explore! Each grade level in the district was assigned a Hispanic country to explore! Students were introduced to the country as part of the setting of a read aloud picture book where they listened and looked closely for clues and evidence in the pictures and words that were connected to the geography and/or culture of the country. | Further Exploration Using Capstone & PebbleGo Students worked in groups to collect and take notes on additional geographical and cultural features of the country using digital resources on Capstone and Pebble Go, as well as other non-fiction texts. | Students as Leaders Student-led groups worked to consolidate all of the facts and prepared them to present for display on our digital Google platform, Jamboard. Students were able to decide whether they wanted to use words, pictures, or symbols to share their facts. See our amazing displays below. Each section of the grade focused on a different aspect of culture so that the final session was spent sharing and learning from each other's Jamboards. |

The Invisible Boy by Trudy Ludwig
A simple act of kindness can transform an invisible boy into a friend...
Meet Brian, the invisible boy. Nobody in class ever seems to notice him or think to include him in their group, game, or birthday party . . . until, that is, a new kid comes to class.
When Justin, the new boy, arrives, Brian is the first to make him feel welcome. And when Brian and Justin team up to work on a class project together, Brian finds a way to shine.

🍁🍂🍃Leaf Research Projects🍁🍂🍃
We're Going on a Leaf Hunt! K-6 students participated in their second research event this school year. We started by reading the popular story, We're Going on a Leaf Hunt by Steve Metzger where students got up and followed along with the actions as they were transformed into the autumn fun in a rhythmic dramatic read aloud. Students in grades 3 and 4 read aloud Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn by Kenard Pak to identify and connect to the signs of the season. Students in grades 5 and 6 read aloud Leif and the Fall by Allison Sweet Grant to uncover and connect to the theme that creativity and persistence can lead to amazing things! | Our Research Begins Our students in all grade levels dove into their autumn research projects! Individually and as a class, students developed questions about fall foliage, made connections to prior knowledge, and devised a plan to fill knowledge gaps. Then, we were ready to go on our very own leaf hunts! | Presentation of InformationUsing the evidence we collected from our leaf hunts, reading passages, and booklets, we continued to investigate our questions and develop conclusions pertaining to the identification of our leaves based on our observations and classifications. |
