The Light Bulb
An invention bringing light to many
A bright discovery
Thomas Edison invented the light bulb in 1879. He had failed thousands of times before his successful light bulb, and even that is much different than what we have today. His original design involved a coiled carbon filament, today we use a tungsten filament.
How it works
The light bulb works by putting electricity through a coil, it heats up to the points of being light. The electricity vibrates the atoms causing the atoms to rub against each other, creating heat. The bulb is also filled with an inert gas, such as argon.
