O'Plaine College & Career News
August 2022
Welcome to the 2022 - 2023 School Year!
Hello Blue Devils, Parents & Guardians!
My name is Trini Hartley and I am one of the Post-Secondary Counselors here at Warren, serving primarily the O'Plaine Campus. I'm proudly going into my 16th year at Warren and have served in the roles of both School Counselor and Post-Secondary Counselor at both campuses. Carri McGahan joins me as the Post-Secondary Counselor at Almond. We work closely together to educate the school community about options available to students after high school. Believe it or not, it's not too early to begin planning for your life's next adventure!
We are thrilled to continue delivering Warren’s comprehensive post-secondary curriculum this year. As you get acclimated to the O'Plaine Campus and your new schedule, please feel free to let me know if I can assist you in any way. No matter what your goals are after high school, I welcome any questions you may have.
Below are some of our post-secondary services and resources available to Warren Families.
Communication
Communicating with students, parents/guardians, staff and the community is one of our top priorities. You will receive emails from us throughout the school year with college and career information and resources, including upcoming events, presentations, college visits and fairs, career info, local job opportunities, school-day workshops and more. See the list of programming dates at the end of this newsletter.
- Students, we strongly encourage you to check your WTHS email regularly
- Parents/guardians please note that anything we send students will also be sent to you
- We also send periodic texts and utilize Instagram and Facebook - parents/guardians and students are encouraged to follow us @wthsccc!
- Students, you will soon receive an invite to our Canvas course. Be sure to accept to not only be able to easily access post-secondary resources, but to also stay in the loop for upcoming events and opportunities!!
Maia Learning
Maia Learning is our college and career planning and exploration tool for students. Parents/Guardians are welcome to create a “shadow” account to access college/career info and data and also view the information your student utilizes. Families will receive an automated email in the near future with directions to create an account if you choose.
College and Career Center
Our College and Career Center is located in Room 258 by the O'Plaine Library. This space is utilized for college visits, workshops, presentations and open time for students to pop in during their lunch study hall. The CCC is open most Mondays and Tuesdays during the lunch periods throughout the school year. If you want college and career guidance/info or have questions, simply "drop in" to the CCC instead of attending your lunch study hall. Plan to arrive on time and your attendance will be excused from your study hall.
College & Career Planning Meetings
Over the summer, Mrs. McGahan and I met with over 160 Warren families for our 30-minute college and career planning meetings. Families and students gain a sense of direction and relief after our meetings, as their questions are answered and next steps provided. If this is something your family would like to do during the school year, I welcome it! Again, it's never too early to get started! Simply email me at thartley@wths.net, and we can schedule a time during your student’s lunch or study hall period. Students, you can also meet with me individually by dropping in to the CCC during your lunch study hall or by emailing me directly.
Post-Secondary Planning
We've tailored programming for each grade level to enhance students' college and career exploration and knowledge. To support our curriculum, we created a comprehensive Post High School Planning Guide with valuable information about the college and career search, applications, financial aid, NCAA eligibility, standardized testing, timelines and more!
Together with your School Counselor, Mrs. McGahan and I look forward to working with you and your families as you explore your post-secondary options. We encourage you take full advantage of our services so you stay in the know and feel confident in your post-secondary plans upon graduating - the time between now and then will fly!
Sincerely,
Ms. Hartley
