A letter from Jordan Mills
Dear Bridgeport Families,
Conferences
We are really looking forward to seeing you next week at virtual conferences! If you still need to schedule a conference, please reach out to your student’s teacher or call our office so that we can make an appointment for you. We are looking forward to hearing more about your student’s experience with distance learning. Teachers will also share about what they are working on in class and you will work together to set some goals for this year.
Student survey
We also wanted to let you know that next week we will be taking students through a short survey with ten simple questions asking how they feel about school. The questions ask if they feel included at school, feel they have friends, and generally feel supported. These will not be used to monitor individuals but rather to identify school wide themes and needs so that we can improve our programs.
i-Ready
Starting as early as next week, students will also begin taking the i-Ready assessment. This video shows how it works. It adapts to student skills and gives us information about what they still need to learn. Students are not expected to know the answer to every question! This information will help us plan lessons for the class and meet individuals’ needs. i-Ready will replace some of the reading and math tests we have used in the past.
Every student at Bridgeport will use the i-Ready assessment app to take the test during their usual reading and math time but the exact day will vary a bit by grade level. All students will take the math assessment. The reading assessment will only be for some grade levels. The reading assessment is in English and will also be given to TWI students so that we can monitor their reading progress in both languages.
It’s important that you do not help your student with the answers on this assessment. This way we can be sure the scores really show their skills. You can, however, encourage and support your child! We are working hard to plan for this so that it is successful for your student and not overwhelming. Please reach out if you have any questions!
We are in this together!
If you have needs related to distance learning, we are here for you and want to help in any way we can! Reach out to our office, your student’s teacher, or me anytime. I am impressed by the resilience and flexibility our students are showing in navigating this new learning environment. It has been a pleasure to watch students develop their independent study skills and persevere through challenges. Thank you for showing your students how to always give their best effort and stay positive. Our bulldogs are incredible!
Sincerely,
Jordan Mills

News from Mrs. Anton....We’re almost ready for Library!
Hi Bulldogs!
This is Mrs. Anton from the library. I miss seeing you all at school! I have been working hard to get the library ready for you to check out books - even while you are all working so hard with Distance Learning.
First, we have to get in the routine of returning those library books. Once we have practiced for about two weeks, I get to start checking out books for you to borrow. I’m so excited! Here’s what you need to know.
Drop off your books in the new book return box located outside near the front doors. Just books please, no devices. It’s out there and ready anytime you are.
Take a look and explore in Destiny to see what books are in the library. There are a lot of new ones. If you sign in to Destiny with your account then you can make your wish list.
Watch and listen for when you get to check out books starting sometime in November.
That’s it gang. Don’t forget to read, read and read some more.

Mr. Karr's Counseling Corner
Hi Bridgeport families,
I hope you are doing well. I created a space where members of our community could find counseling, food, and other community resources. I hope this website will help us stay connected during this unsettling time. On the website you will find resources for supporting students at home, such as breathing and relaxation tools, ways to support children in identifying their emotions, and strategies for managing difficult behaviors. I will also post read alouds periodically and will be picking stories that seem relevant to the current time and the current needs of our students.
Thank you,
Jordan Karr
