Indian Hills Elementary Updates
2021-2022 Parent Newsletter
Principal's Message
Dear Families,
This month our students are starting to settle into routines and getting back into the swing of being in school for instruction. All students at Indian Hills will take several assessments in their classrooms to help teachers know how to meet each child's individual needs. Each grade level conducts assessments in reading, comprehension, writing and math throughout this month. Assessments may be conducted 1:1 with the teacher, in writing, or on the computer. It depends on the grade level and subject. Teachers will share with parents at conferences what skills the students will be focusing on.
This month the character trait we are working on is helpfulness. It warms my heart to see some of our youngest students helping each other out all the way up to our oldest students supporting staff and other students around the building. Indian Hills students are extremely helpful as well as responsible.
Thank you so much for your flexibility as we pilot the OHSU COVID screening program. We are one of 3 elementary schools in the Hillsboro School District to pilot this program before it rolls out to all of our other schools in the district. This week was the first week that kits were sent home. If you signed your child up to be part of the program but did not receive a kit this week, don't worry they will be included in next week's screenings. Screening kits go home every Monday and then brought back to the main office first thing Tuesday morning. Spit tests need to be completed Tuesday before they come to school. Do not do the spit test the night before or the sample is not valid. OHSU picks the kits up on Tuesday morning. Results are not shared with the school and are sent directly to parents.
See you this evening at our first PTO meeting of the 2021-2022 school year which will be held virtually. The link for the meeting is below in the Upcoming Dates.
Thank you again for such a warm welcome into this community. Indian Hills sure is a special place.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Thomas

Attendance
Learning From Home
We're really excited about having students back in school five days a week full-time but unfortunately there are instances when a student cannot attend school. This may be because there has been a Covid exposure in the household or a student has COVID-19 or COVID like symptoms. These are what we call a required absence. We have a specific code for that in our attendance system.
If your student is required to be absent from school they will be able to access online learning through their Google classroom. This online learning does not look like CDL from last year. There will be assignments that are posted in the classroom that can be done at a time that is convenient for the student and your family.
Every student has a Chromebook assigned to them that can go home for them to use to access assignments. If you are in need of resources or help accessing or logging in please see the links below that can answer many of your questions. Additionally if you need more support please contact the office and someone will call back at a time that works, to walk you through this.
