Instructional Coach for 2019-2020
"Hello, Platte County High School!
I am beyond thrilled to be named Instructional Coach, joining your team and jumping in with our work together this coming school year. Originally from the Milwaukee area, I come to you from West-Central Illinois where I have had the good fortune to work with learners of all ages and from a wide array of backgrounds. In two different capacities, I have served as an instructional coach, both of which were built from the ground up. In this work which totaled a span of nine years, I made the intentional decision to land myself back in the classroom. I
needed to know what it feels like as we manage everything which is on the plate of a classroom teacher while keeping in mind the coaching model. As a result, for the past four years, I have served as a high school ELA teacher...just where I started 26 years ago!
Education is truly my passion as student gains are realized, and I continue to grow myself as well in pursuit of my EdD through Concordia University.
Am I ready for this challenge and excited to get to know you all?
You better believe it! Here we go, Pirates!"

Staff SCHIVIR Spotlight
Here are the April nominees:
CHRISTY SANDELL
Ms. Sandell has went above and beyond to support one particular student on my caseload. She has helped this student to set goals not just for her class but for other classes as well. She has collaborated with me multiple times when she has concerns about or has ideas to help this student. She has been flexible if the student has had to miss class and helped the student stay on track. This student has greatly struggled to establish relationships with staff members in the past and Ms. Sandell has provided support to help this student feel more comfortable and encouraged to do her best. The fact that this student will voluntarily approach Ms. SandelI for help is huge!
Christy Sandell
STUDENT FOCUS
Christy goes above and beyond for our special education students. She attends a ridiculous number of IEP meetings each year. She is a valuable asset to IEP teams by actively participating in the meeting with valuable information about the student. Students with IEPs see Christy as a trusting teacher and she has made an effort to make good relationships with them. For example, when a student with an IEP was having a rough day Christy spent her plan time helping me to calm him down. Then when he said he was worried about his lunch money she bought him lunch.
Valorie Stokes
STUDENT FOCUS
I took my Eng-III classes down to the library to check out books, and Val was phenomenal in helping them. Not only did she run through Overdrive with some of them, but she would talk to them individually and find out their interests/books they previously enjoyed... Her assistance and her desire to know their interests helped them find a book to read, and many of them dove right into their books.
Dawn DIaz
COLLABORATION
Dawn is our PCHS "girl Friday". She can be counted on to do just about any task anyone asks her to do around the school and the district--beyond being fantastic at her job in the PCHS Library--from helping with gates to proctoring tests to verifying residency for students during the summer at DEC. She is the go-to person when people want quality work done efficiently and well and with a friendly smile... She takes pride in her work and is a level-headed and calming influence for everyone around her.
