St. Clair High News
The students and staff at St. Clair High School work vigorously to provide quality programs in Academics * Arts * Athletics * Service. This week we feature the SCHS “Fine Arts Program”. Over 40% of our students participate in a fine arts class or activity. The fine arts create outlets for student creativity and the structures which support student growth in the arts. Fine arts continue to attract students and provide opportunities for our students, families, and community to hear, see, and feel treasures not available in many family homes. We are proud of our fine arts programs and encourage all to take an active interest in student fine arts programming and the fundraising which helps to make it possible.
The SCHS Fine Arts Department: Mark Eberhard – Theatre Troupe Director, David Adragna – Vocal Music Director, Cindy Whisman – Art Teacher, Micah Volz – Director of Bands
Mark Eberhard teaches Biology, AP Biology, and advises the SCHS Student Council in addition to directing the theater. He holds a Masters Degree in Theater and has been recognized as a Classrooms4theFuture grant recipient and “Outstanding Biology Teacher” presented by the National Association of Biology Teachers.
David Adragna has just joined the SCHS staff, recently graduating from Oakland University. He brings his love of teaching students music, cultivated under the leadership of MCHS Vocal Music Instructor – Bert VanDyke, to help build our vocal music program. The SCHS Choir can be enjoyed at the PAC and many local events, including the recent “Lighted Santa Parade” held in downtown St. Clair.
Cindy Whisman, who has been a SCHS Art Teacher for 24 years, is retiring. Her students have received numerous awards including several “Best in Show” from the St. Clair Art Association and the annual competition held by St. Clair County Community Mental Health. Cindy has also mentored students who were recognized by Scholastic in New York City. SCHS has benefited from her student art displays throughout the year and as part of the annual “Festival of the Arts”.
Micah Volz directs the SCHS Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Jazz Band. He has led the Marching Saints to many high profile events including Detroit’s “America’s Thanksgiving Day Parade” and Disney World’s “Magic Kingdom Parade”. Micah holds Masters Degree in Music from Northwestern University and has mentored many high school and college musicians and instructor/directors. Recently, Micah received the Blue Water Area, Distinguished Teacher Award.
