Kamiak Weekly Update
May 6th, 2022

From the Prinicpal
On behalf of the Kamiak staff, and especially our classroom teachers, thank you for your generosity and kind recognition during Teacher Appreciation Week. It is indeed our honor to serve the Kamiak community. Your children – our students – are our favorite source of joy and pride. Still, it’s nice to be spoiled every so often. Thank you!
Earlier this year, our students picked their classes for next year. If students have changed their minds about the classes they want, there is one last opportunity to make a change. The schedule change window is May 9th to May 20th. We recommend that all students double check their course requests in Qmlativ during the schedule change window. If they have changed their minds or see an error, they will need to set an appointment to meet with their counselor or visit during lunch when counselors hold drop-in appointments. (Note: Only incoming ninth grade students may make course change requests by email. All other students complete their course change requests using in-person meetings. After May 20th, no schedule changes are made and we respect your course respects as your final decision.
Athlete of the Week
Aidan will be receiving his 4th varsity letter this year. So far this season, he has scored 6 goals and had 3 assists. To go along with his amazing on field production, Aidan is a leader off the field as well. His tireless commitment to improving his soccer skills has afforded him the opportunity to play in college. He has committed to attend and play soccer for Seattle Pacific University next fall. Congratulations on a fantastic high school career, SPU is fortunate to receive such a fine player and person in their program!

In roaring twenties Chicago, chorine Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband, Amos, to take the rap...until he finds out he's been duped and turns on Roxie. Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another "Merry Murderess," Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the "American Dream": fame, fortune, and acquittal. ATTENDANCE REMINDERS FOR FAMILIES
PLEASE call or email ONE DAY IN ADVANCE (if possible) when you need your student dismissed early from school. Our campus is HUGE! We have multiple buildings with almost 2,400 students. Students may be off campus for aerobic walking, in one of two lunchrooms or in East Campus. We will get a pass to your student, they will sign out in Attendance and meet you at your vehicle in the roundabout at the time you indicate. Thank you for your help with this.
For ANY absence, please email (in your native language is fine) KAAttendance@mukilteo.wednet.edu or call 425-366-5460.
INCLUDE:
Student First and LAST NAME
DATE of absence
REASON for absence
TIME for dismissal (if applicable)
VOICEMAIL or EMAIL RESPONSE: We will only return your call or voicemail if we have questions but will always respond to email.
PRE-ARRANGED ABSENCES: please have your student pick up a pre-arranged absence form (#1 on the purple wall) in Attendance, fill it out in ink, have their teachers and parent/guardian sign it and return to Attendance. Each student is allowed 5 Excused pre-arranged absences per year.
SPRING ATHLETE REMINDER: Your student may NOT participate in practice or competition on a given day if they have ANY unexcused absence OR miss more than 3 periods of the day EVEN IF the absence is excused (exception: school-related absence such as class fieldtrip). Please note that if your student misses more than 25% of class, they will be marked with an Unexcused Absence rather than a tardy (i.e., depending on the day of the week and the class period, arriving more than 10-13 minutes into a class will be an unexcused absence). Visit the Athletics page for eligibility info or email the Athletic Department at KAAthletics@mukilteo.wednet.edu with athletics questions.
Special Olympics Washington - Volunteers Needed!
We are hosting regional competitions in the next few weeks and we are extremely short of volunteers, especially on May 1st! If at all possible, would you be able to get the word out to your students, athletes, coaches, teachers, parents, families, etc.? Thank you in advance for any assistance you may be able to provide.
On Sunday, May 1st, we still need approximately 200 additional volunteers in order to put on a quality event for the athletes! They’ve been training so hard for the first full season of competitions since March 2020 and in order to do that, we need volunteers! Volunteers do not necessarily need to know anything about the sport but it would be helpful in some roles. There are All Day and AM or PM shifts available.
This would be a great opportunity for families to volunteer together or for high-schoolers to get their service hours in - the minimum age to volunteer is 11 (youth ages 11-13 must volunteer with an adult), and teens ages 14-17 may volunteer on their own but in select roles. We will be happy to sign any paperwork needed by students to submit their service hours.
Notes on the individual sports:
• Soccer – we need OFFICIALS! Any coaches available?
• Athletics (track & field) – we need over 200 additional volunteers
Please check your calendars and register as soon as possible for the following events (click on the red link to register):
• Saturday, May 7 – NW Regional Soccer Competition, Lynnwood High School, (Bothell / Lynnwood). To volunteer register at https://sowa2022nwregionsoccer.my-trs.com/

Tickets for Graduation
This year, Kamiak High School will hold the 2022 Graduation Ceremony at Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett, Washington. Like in years prior to the pandemic, we anticipate one ceremony on June 10th at 4pm. We also anticipate unlimited seating for the families coming to watch their seniors walk across the stage. This means you will not need tickets. But, recognizing the unpredictability of the COVID-19 Pandemic, things can change uncontrollably. We look to regular guidance from the Snohomish Health District, and will let our Kamiak community know if/when there is a change regarding our plans for Graduation.

Kamiak High School may choose to live stream activities and events to our social media and/or YouTube channel. This notification serves as official notice to all parents and guardians that your student’s participation in activities outside the regular school day may be identified and published and/or live streamed.
