Help Fund the Tyler Gardner MC Tuition Scholarship
A year ago, the Marian family lost a dear student, Tyler Gardner (Class of 2018), to cancer. In memory of Tyler, his classmates are raising a Marian Central tuition scholarship fund by selling memorial bracelets during all lunch periods this week for $2 each. If you are interested in purchasing a bracelet or making a donation to the Tyler Gardner Memorial Scholarship, make checks payable to Marian Central with Tyler Gardner in the memo or pay with credit card at https://www.marian.com/online-payment/. (Select Annual Fund as Payment Type, Student ID: 1111111 and Tyler Gardner in Student Name.) All pre-orders for bracelets need to be made by Monday, April 9.

SENIORS: Senior VIDEO Needs YOUR 9th - 10th Grade Memories!
WE NEED YOUR HELP! We are in DESPERATE NEED of photos covering 9th through 10th grade for the SENIOR VIDEO!
We want to represent each and every student's experience here throughout the video and would like to request a favor of our parents. If you could please send 5-8 pictures of your student's time here at Marian from Freshman Year to Senior Year by Monday, April 30th (allows for any prom pictures to be included ), this would allow the Senior Council to compile the video in time for the Senior Breakfast.
We do ask for pictures including 2 or more students from Marian (no single shots, please), and have the pictures that were taken place at Marian events or with other Marian students from the Class of 2018.
These pictures can be emailed to kgallagher@marian.com or in an envelope dropped off to the Marian off or Room 127 with your student's name on it. If you are scanning and emailing the pictures, please make sure that the files are in JPEG format. With the large number of pictures we are expecting to receive, this would help decrease any extra steps of converting the files to complete this important project. We look forward to being able to represent your student's time here at Marian and as a Hurricane.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Miss Gallagher at kgallagher@marian.com.
Sincerely,
The 2018 Senior Class Council
NHS Earns 2018 Outstanding Service Award!
The National Honor Society (NHS) has recognized Marian Central Catholic High School’s Bishop Lane Chapter as a recipient of the 2018 Outstanding Service Award!
During Catholic Schools Week in 2017, the Bishop Lane chapter of the National Honor Society organized a donation drive to provide less fortunate families with the means to celebrate the birthdays of their young children. Festive donations (such as cake mix, sprinkles, and small toys) were collected from the McHenry County Deanery elementary schools and on the Marian Central students and faculty and were then combined in boxes, wrapped, and delivered to four local food pantries for distribution. Not only did this project provide for the emotional and social wellness of impoverished children in the community, it provided elementary school students with the opportunity to experience the joys of service.

Marian Central Hosts Deanery Science Teachers in 'You Be A Chemist' Professional Workshop!
On Saturday, March 10, eight teachers from the McHenry County Deanery elementary schools and Marian’s own Mr. Heiden were busy learning in the Hurricanes’ cafeteria!
Earlier this year, Mr. Heiden met with our Deanery feeder elementary school principals to offer a program called You Be The Chemist and the ability for their teachers to participate in the Essential Elements workshop. This professional development program is designed to provide teachers with a variety of methods in which they can expose students to chemistry concepts from kindergarten through 8th grade. Mr. Heiden organized this workshop so that Deanery teachers would not only learn different methods, but the program also equips each participate with a host of grade appropriate lessons that have real-world application.
By exposing students to these scientific concepts at an early age, our STEM program will be enhanced from the ground level! Even more exciting is that students at the middle school level may be able to participate in the You Be The Chemist Challenge at the local, state, and national level. This event is an academic contest similar to the National Spelling or Geography Bees.

SENIORS: Worried About Exam Exemptions?
Please review the Exam Exemption & Appeal Form. At the BOTTOM of the form, there is an APPEAL box that we encourage students to check if you believe one of the criteria should be re-evaluated in your case. What does this mean to you? Well, let's say your Quarter 3 grade for a class dips below that 91%, BUT you absolutely pull your Quarter 4 grade up. Simply check the "Appeal" box - explain your grade for the class, and we will consider the exemption!
When is the Exam Exemption & Appeal Form due?
Students who wish to be considered for exemptions MUST submit the completed form to the school office by 3:00 pm on Friday, May 4th. We will not allow exemptions if we do not have this form completed. We need this form early enough to run a complete audit of all criteria (grades, attendance, discipline.) We will notify you in writing exactly which exams have been approved for exemptions within one week of receipt.
As stated when we launched this program, this is our "beta" year - so we are anticipating a few bumps as we work through the process. We appreciate all the support and patience as we test this out this year. We will also release a brief survey at the end of the school year for feedback so we can make improvements for Year 2!
SAVE THE DATE! Marian Central Golf Outing!
How better to spend one more weekend of snow than to plan for a perfect summer day on the golf course!
Enjoy a day of golf and dinner on Wednesday, June 13 at Crystal Woods Golf Club to benefit Marian Athletic Teams.
Golfers must be 21 years of age.
