WBMS Friday Notes
May 13-16
Reflections from Ms. Perkins
WBMS Parents and Guardians –
I cannot believe this was our last full week of school for the 2019-20 year! Where has the time gone? The year has been filled with learning, friendships, perseverance, creativity, and fun. This week at our faculty meeting I asked our staff members to reflect on their biggest wins for the year, and I heard so many inspiring stories of student growth. Stories of students who cultivated curiosity, learned how to self-advocate, became more , learned academic concepts, and so much more. Our teacher’s faces were beaming with pride as they spoke about our students and how much success they have seen in them throughout the year.
Thank you for supporting Relay for Life. There is a special video in this week’s edition of Friday Notes to unveil how much our community donated. Also, thank you to all who came out last week and this week to support our brilliant performing arts programs. The difference in sound and confidence from the beginning of the year is astounding and illustrates how we all can stretch ourselves. In addition, thank you to all our remarkable volunteers who have made this year such a success. We hosted a brunch this week and were pleased so many could attend but wanted to be sure we extended gratitude to the many others who could not join the event. Your partnership with us makes WBMS the truly delightful place it is.
Next week our 8th graders will wrap up final exams and participate in our special 8th Grade Bridging Ceremony at AHS on WEDNESDAY evening. All students will turn in their devices and enjoy a day of excitement during Webb Hero Day! It will be a short but enjoyable week.
Enjoy the last weekend of the school year!

Summer Opportunity Especially Suited for North Fulton Students!
As you know, we have the two programs for middle schoolers, JA BizTown and JA Finance Park, but we are often asked by teachers and parents if there is anything additional available for students to round out their experience with JA. I am so very happy to announce that for the very first time, JA of Georgia is offering a 4-Day Summer Experience at two of our JA Discovery Center locations! The 4-day summer program will be offered for a fee at the Mike & Lynn Cottrell JA Discovery Center in Cummingand at the JA Discovery Center at Gwinnett in Lawrenceville! This summer experience is available for a fee to all students ages 10-14, regardless of any previous participation with JA. Students will have the opportunity to learn topics such as Economic Foundations, Innovation and Branding, Business Management, and Financial Capability. This will be a robust 4-day experience that will incorporate some of the economic principals learned in JA BizTown as well as financial principals learned in JA Finance Park. The 4-day summer experience will take that learning even further by affording students the opportunity to create their own product, incorporate e-commerce, apply and interview for their own jobs, and rate and coach each other in their marketing plans! It is critical thinking and collaboration at its best!
This experience is perfect for students who were unable to participate this year or who left the JA Discovery Center with a desire for more! It is from 9 – 3 with an 8 – 4:30 before and after-care option, and parents will drop off and pick up their child daily. It is not restricted to those who are within our partner school systems.
Please feel free to pass on this information to anyone in your network who might be interested. I have attached a flyer for this JA Discovery Center Summer Experience. The registration can be found using the following link: Summer Experience Registration.

Take Steps for Crohn's & Colitis Foundation
Please help support Take Steps for Crohn's & Colitis Foundation, to raise money for crucial research that will bring us closer to a future free from Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis (IBD). Over 1.6 million American adults and children are affected by these digestive diseases, and recent research unfortunately indicates the effected population could be nearly 2x that. While many suffer in silence, Take Steps brings this community together in a fun and supportive atmosphere.
Your donation will help fund local patient programs, as well as important research projects that will benefit patients and their families, wherever they reside. This cause is very important to us and we appreciate your help as we fight for cures! In addition to donating, you can join the fun at the walk June 1! There will be food, music and family activities.
Please use this link to join us on Walk day or contribute to our efforts to support CCF in finding a cure!

Save the date-The Cotillion of Alpharetta is coming January 2020!
We are excited to start our classes on Sunday, January 5 at The Metropolitan Club off Windward Parkway! Come have fun with us while learning dance and etiquette! Registration will open November 1.
This is not your grandmother’s cotillion! The Seventh Graders will learn basic ballroom dancing and popular dance (Shag, Swing, Free Style, Line and Slow), as well as many important social and professional skills the students will need to know now and throughout their lives. The Seventh Grade class will culminate in a Parents Showcase displaying the Program as parents observe all their child has learned. Students will also enjoy a 50's Party filled with games, contests, dancing and pizza!
For Eighth Graders, the classes will review the basics taught in year one, and the students will learn many new dances including Latin, Swing and Hustle. An extensive Table Manners segment will further develop your child’s social graces. Dating, interviews and making conversation will also be covered. The Eighth Grade Program will culminate in a Dinner Dance that brings all of the students’ new skills into practice. New students are always welcome in 8th grade.
You can expect your child to gain confidence in our classes, and learn how to greet, shake hands and converse with adults—an all-important skill as the dating years approach. They will also discuss social media etiquette! But most of all, your teen will have fun!
