A Message from Principal Choquette
Good evening, I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend. If you did not receive Dr. Provost's robocall on Friday, we are again continuing our pause until Monday, January 25th. There will be no in-person learning again this week. This means that all students grades PreK-5 who chose in-person learning will begin again on Monday, January 25th unless we hear otherwise. I am so sorry for the week-to-week uncertainty of whether or not we will be in person or remote. I know this is incredibly challenging when trying to plan childcare. This is why it is so very important that we are all following the guidelines around safety. There are many people still gathering without masks and social distancing. Unless everyone does their part, the numbers of cases will continue to go up and we will struggle with getting back to in-person learning. Please for your safety, the safety of your children, and for the safety of our faculty and staff, do your part in helping us get back to in-person learning.
I know that these next few days leading up to the Inauguration are going to impact people in different ways. Some with excitement, some with disappointment, but I think most of all, many of us with anxiety in wondering if anything else will happen as horrible as what happened on January 6th. Please remember that we are a family at BSS, and we want to make sure you feel supported. Please reach out to me at any time. Be safe, be kind, and take care of each other.
Have a good week.

Your classroom teacher will be sending out a sign-up genius link for you to sign up for a time to bring your child in for the assessments. The assessments for in-person students will happen during the school day, for remote students and kindergarten and 1st grade students, they will take place during the afternoons of the half days and teacher caregiver/teacher conferences and the teacher work day on the 29th. Superintendent's Survey
In an effort to provide more support to parents in our district, we'd like to get a sense of what's going on in your family right now. Please take a few minutes to complete this confidential survey so we can offer parent workshops geared towards meeting the needs of families in our district.
Tutoring Resource
I'm hoping that you can help spread the word that Homework House is offering FREE virtual tutoring for children in grades 1-6 by appointment after school. This program is open to all children regardless of school district or household income. Tutoring is provided by trained HH volunteers and sessions are 45 minutes long. Our volunteer tutors are primarily UMASS, Smith and Mt. Holyoke students. For those of you who might have contacts, we are also interested in partnering with schools outside of Holyoke to place our volunteer tutors in classrooms during the remote/hybrid school day. I've attached a flyer about the after school program that has the contact infor mation for my Program Director. I am happy to answer any questions about our virtual programs. Thanks, Virginia
