June 2021

Salem Heights Elementary

Message from Principal Theis

Greetings everyone,

Summer Break is officially in sight! With only three weeks left our staff are doing their best to squeeze in as much fun and learning as possible before saying goodbye to our students for the year.

A few changes: the Oregon Department of Education recently updated their mask policy for staff and students, so students now have the option to remove their masks during recess! The 6ft physical distancing policy is still in place, and if a student is uncomfortable with this change they are welcome to wear their mask. We will continue to wear masks and physically distance while in class.

Thank you again for your patience as our policies continue to adapt to the pandemic. Let's finish strong!

Go Rascals!

Final Choir Concert

Our final choir concert of the year is fast approaching!

When: Tuesday, June 1st . Zoom link opens at 6:15pm, concert begins at 6:20pm (and should last about 15-20 minutes.)

Where: Voce Virtuale Choir Zoom link on Canvas (same way your student accesses rehearsals).

How to Set Up: https://youtu.be/WIL6CRBuYa8

What to wear: Anything school appropriate – students are allowed to wear “fancy clothes”, fun hats, or whatever they wear to school!

Recordings: The music teachers will not be able to capture your child’s voice in a recording due to sound lags on Zoom. We will record the visual of them singing. OPTIONAL: If you want to share your child’s performance as a recording with their voice, please bring a device (phone/camera) that you can record video with to share with distant friends or family.

*If you cannot make it to the live concert time or you experience technical difficulties, please contact me and I will provide you with an alternative way of participating in the concert.

Special Note: Any incoming 4th-6th graders who would like an in-person choir experience this summer, check out this Summer Camp option! Ms. Gliebe will be one of five directors hosting an honor Elementary Choir Camp. It will be in Session 4, August 9-20, from 8am-12pm at North Salem High School. Chromebook Return!

We will be collecting Chromebooks the last week of school, June 14-17th. Please plan to have your student bring their Chromebook, power cord, and any other technology the district has provided for CDL.

Our technology department will then undertake the massive job of cleaning, repairing, and updating 40,000 Chromebooks in preparation for the 2021-2022 school year!

Because students will not have their Chromebooks the last week of school, there will be no zoom classes or online assignments. Teachers will be suggesting screen-free activities for their home days.

Last Day for Lost and Found

On June 18th we will be displaying all of our remaining lost and found items from this (2020-21) and last (2019-20) school year. All items will be on tables under the covered area, near our main entrance. After that date all items will be donated.

If you are not able to make it to the school on June 18th, and/or there is a particular item you are looking for, please call the office at 503-399-3187. We can search and let you know if your missing item is in our lost and found, then set it aside for pick-up.

Thursday, June 3rd at 6:30 the Salem Heights PTC will be having our monthly parent support group. This is an informal meeting for parents, grandparents, and guardians of Salem Heights students to meet, talk, collaborate, and socialize with other adults in our school community. We would love to have you join us! This is a virtual meeting via Microsoft Teams. You can join at 6:30 pm by clicking the link below.

Enrolling your child in school early allows our school to prepare for the best possible education. Although the district will not know how school may look next fall, enrolling early, your kindergarten students are sure to thrive with the support of trained educators with in-person and online learning options.

Children who will be 5-years-old on or before September 10, 2021 are eligible to register for free, full-day kindergarten with SKPS. Learn more about how to complete online registration on our district website.

To complete registration, you will need an updated record of your child’s immunizations, proof of residence and your proof of age with you to register.
