Note from the Principal
Good Afternoon Parents,
Happy Wednesday! Next week is packed full...so be sure to read on to make sure you don't miss what is happening with the Buena Vista Bulldogs. To start off, next week is red Ribbon Week, each day we will have a different spirit day to remind us to be healthy. On Thursday we will have our PTA Fun Run and finally we will finish on Friday with our virtual Halloween Parade! I can't wait!
Student Engagement
This week, I had the opportunity to drop into Mrs.Bockser's 5th grade class during science. Students were looking at Patterns of the Earth and the Sky. They were finishing up an investigation that had them asking, "How can we investigate why we see different stars on different nights?" Using a simulator, they were able to create various situations, using different variables when looking at the night sky and track and record their data of what they could see in the night sky. They were truly donning their astronomers hats and asking great questions. At one point a student said, "Yes! Yes! I figured it out!" with a fist pump in the air. It's exactly the excitement about learning every principal wants to see when visiting classrooms.
PTA Fun Run Update
Our PTA has kicked off our Fun Run this week. Already pledges have started coming in, but it is a tight race to the finish to see which classrooms will reach their goals first. Currently, we have raised $7,750 dollars we are SO CLOSE to our first school wide reward of Pajama Day! It would be awesome if we reached our first goal tomorrow and could have Pajama Day this Friday! Only $2,250 to go to our first goal!!! Let's Go Bulldogs!!
Our Fun Run will be Thursday, October 28th. Only staff and prior cleared volunteers who are running the event will be allowed on campus.
Halloween
On Friday, October 29th. We will have our Halloween parade for students and staff only. The parade will start at 9:30 and we will live stream it for parents to watch online. Teachers are planning their classroom parties with the help of parent donations. We will not have any parent volunteers on campus for this event. If you do not want your child to participate in the parade or celebration, please let your teacher know and we will make sure to make alternate plans for your child with our Library Specialist.
Here are the guidelines for acceptable student costumes this year:
- No masks that cover one’s entire face. We must be able to identity students
- Face paint is acceptable as long is it not gory (ie no blood)
- Inflatable costumes are ok for the parade only. Students must be able to remove their inflatable costume for class time.
- No weapons, even fake weapons made of plastic, foam, etc
- Costumes must not reference weapons, drugs, or alcohol.
Red Ribbon Week:
At Buena Vista we celebrate Red Ribbon Week to remind us to be healthy and to make safe choices for our bodies and minds. Here are the ways we are going to remind ourselves to make healthy choices next week:
- Monday-Your choices are the keys to your dreams.- Wear your pajamas to school.
- Tuesday-Team up against drugs and bullying.- Wear your favorite sports jersey or uniform.
- Wednesday-From head to toe, I’m healthy, kind and free.- Crazy Hair and Sock Day
- Thursday-Buena Vista Bulldogs make healthy choices! - Wear you yellow and green bulldog spirit wear.
- Friday-“Spook” Unhealthy choices away! - Wear your Halloween Costumes.
Kindness Campaign
We are continuing our kindness campaign! I think we have almost doubled our efforts to be kind this week! Please see below for all of the ways that our Buena Vista Bulldogs are spreading kindness around our school. Here are a few highlights:
Alyssandra H.- Kindergarten, Mr. Hauge- "Helped to teach a friend to answer a phone."
Teo D.- 1st Grade, Mrs. Choy - "Helped a friend put on their shoes."
Ihnat K. - 3rd Grade, Ms. Campbell- "Helping a classmate find his glasses."
Ava K. - 4th Grade, Ms. Ha- "Pushing in chairs in the library."
Ingrid M.-5th Grade Mrs. Bockser - "Helping Ms. Ha when everything fell out of her hands!"
Mrs. Choy - "The BV Kitchen appreciates your kindness when walking your class through the lunch line every day!"
As the rainy day weather approaches us, please remember to have your child wear layers. We are continuing to keep doors and windows open, and eating outdoors as much as possible. We do have an alternate plan in place if it is raining during our lunch hour and will do a combination of socially distanced indoor and covered outdoor eating. Students will have indoor, masked recess if it is raining.
I am so proud of all of the kindness happening at Buena Vista. Please continue to be safe and take care.
Respectfully,
Angela Gramlick
Principal

BV PTA and BV STUDENTS Need Your Support!
Our 3rd Annual Bulldog Fun Run is coming up on Thursday, October 28th.
There are two ways that you and your students can collect pledges. Each child will be coming home by Monday with an information sheet and a physical Pledge Form. HOWEVER, we are highly encouraging everyone to go DIGITAL and spend 5 minutes creating your online pledge account with a personalized link that you can email or post to social media. How easy is that? Click here to create your online pledge form.
Our goal is to raise at least $30K as a school so please reach out to family, colleagues, and friends and ask them to donate to support your school. 100% of funds raised go directly toward supporting our BV students and staff and building a stronger community. This fundraiser is run solely with PTA Volunteers, we do not use an outside company to facilitate.
There are individual prizes, class prizes and whole school celebrations. Click here to view the awesome prizes and celebrations!
Let's go BV community! It's time to rally and make our first fundraiser a HUGE SUCCESS!
We do need volunteers to help make this event a success.
Please click here for our Volunteer Sign Up Genius. (You must take a quick volunteer course to participate in the Bulldog Fun Run as a volunteer.)
Click here for the WCSD Volunteer Module.
Unfortunately since we are still trying to limit the number of individuals on campus, only volunteers who have completed the training module for the Bulldog Fun Run will be allowed on campus. No other spectators will be allowed. Let’s Do this! Go Bulldogs.
Please do not hesitate to email Cari at caricartwheel@gmail.com if you have any questions. Thank you in advance for your support and generosity!
