Science
Fifth graders investigated the force of Gravity by building towers during a STEAM+ Science challenge. This collaborative effort allowed them to practice their engineering and design skills while having fun and being creative! Students discovered that adding extra reinforcement to connecting pieces, a large set base and support structures allowed them to combine materials and modify the structure to make it better.
Art
Our 4th grade students have been working on their first art project, centered around the Sage Success Skill: grit. Our students were challenged to create contour line self-portraits… blind-folded! They were reminded that this project was a means by which they might display grit. Although most of these drawings did not capture each student’s true appearance, 4th grade displayed true grit, as they stuck with their art and turned their self-portraits into beautiful works of art!
On their first day in STEAM+ art, our kinders were given the grand tour of the art room and were tasked with the challenge to create their best drawing of their art teacher! We are excited to what else these students will create as we introduce new mediums and various art projects in the coming months!
Music
1st graders are exploring how sound is created, studying and observing vibrations in our vocal chords and in different types of instruments. Along the way, 1st graders are also exploring and learning about volume, pitch, and how to keep the beat!
3rd grade musicians are feeling the rhythm, experimenting with different instrumental timbres as they learn about different note values and write their own rhythmic compositions.
