WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE CLASSROOM??
- Homework: Students need to get their weekly reflection signed and complete their homework bingo sheet and math problem (blue paper front and back). Please have your child return the folder and completed homework sheet by next Friday 9/14.
- Innovation: We will begin innovation block #1. Our class will start in makerspace and we will be reviewing the expectations in the makerspace through various activities and stem challenges.
- Language Arts -We will continue our Government Unit. The essential question we are focusing on is: Why do People Participate in Government? This week students will read an informational text called It's My Right. The text focuses on key people in history who fought for their rights. The reading skills we will work on are identifying key details and summarizing, cause and effect and making inferences.
- Math -This week we will continue to practice place value, rounding to the nearest 10 and nearest 100, and focus primarily on addition and subtraction with regrouping. Students will be using the math programs Reflex and Tenmarks to strengthen their understanding of the math concepts and fact fluency.
- Writing -We will review informative writing and students will be writing an informational paragraph explaining the actions people took to end segregation laws in the South.
- Spelling- Students will engage with words using the long a sound. They will complete a variety of activities with practicing these patterns and apply them in their own writing.
- Vocabulary- Students will be able to use reference materials to build their vocabulary. They will show their understanding of the words by using them in a sentence during collaborative conversations and in writing.
- 7 Habits - Habit 3: Put First Things First. How is your child putting first things first at home?
