A Message from Principal Cockerill

I love technology and have learned so much recently! This week I was recording video tutorials from my computer to help teachers learn to quickly navigate some of the resources we are using for distance learning. A 5th grade student create a shared google doc where we just typed back and forth with each other. Her 2nd grade sister joined in to the document and they taught me that there is actually a "chat" feature with any shared doc! Thanks girls! I attended a GJSHS ASB meeting through Google Hangout. We collaborate as a staff daily through Zoom meetings. It is important during this time that we all continue to learn and grow. #ownyourlearning #stayengaged

More than technology, I love being an educator. However, education is not a one-way street. The best part of being a Principal and being a Teacher is being with our students. I discovered quickly that I miss them ALL. Each staff member at Greenville Elementary and Greenville Jr./Sr. High School feels the same way. We understand the greater need for everyone's safety is the priority now. Please follow the advice of the governor and medical professionals. Practice social distancing protocols. Wash your hands for 20 seconds. Get lots of rest. Eat healthy foods. We want our students back in the classrooms as soon as it is safely possibly. #staysafe #stayhealthy

I know that you are flooded with information from so many sources. Aeries messages from me, teachers, and PUSD have been coming to you via text, email, and phone call. We want you to be informed and updated with information regarding distance learning, meal service, and school closure. #stayconnected

Please watch my video message "Be the Change" below. I am also posting occasional messages (@greenvilleprincipal) on Instagram and now TikTok--keep reading to find my first post! You can also follow us on the GES and GJSHS Facebook pages.

Google Calendar, Gmail, and Classroom, Oh My!

The focus of the 1:1 Laptop/Chromebook Program in PUSD is to prepare students for their futures in a world of digital technology and information. Every student has a gmail account. Our students are very familiar with this and use it to log into their devices. During this time of distance learning, students should be checking their google calendars, gmail (email), and google classroom DAILY. These are the primary ways that some teachers are communicating with students, sending, and collecting online work. It's very simple--just have your child log into his/her account and click on the icons like those pictured above.

If you have any questions or need support, please e-mail Jennifer Martin at jmartin@pcoe.k12.ca.us or Tanya Timmins at ttimmins@pcoe.k12.ca.us.

Here to Help

Need to talk? We understand that this can be a challenging time for all of our Greenville students and families. If you want someone to talk to Ms. Mongiello, our Assistant Principal of Student Supports, is here for you. You can reach out if you’re struggling or just need someone to talk to. Please email her at emongiello@pcoe.k12.ca.us. She will work with you to set up a time to talk either by phone, email, Zoom, or Google Hangout. Please feel free to reach out.

Here are some other options for support-

California has a peer run warm line-phone and web based chat options. They have a policy that you can access it every 4 hours if needed. It does not have to be an emergency to talk to someone. Phone number is: 1-855-845-7415 and webchat can be found at www.mentalhealthsf.org.

If it is an emergency you can always contact the National Suicide Prevention Hotline by calling 1-800-273-8255 or texting HOME to 741741.

About Us

Greenville Elementary School and Greenville Junior/Senior High School are in beautiful western Plumas County. We serve the students of Indian Valley, which includes the communities of Greenville, Crescent Mills, Taylorsville, and Canyon Dam. We are essentially a K-12 school since we are located on one large campus where we share several facilities.
