Broken Arrow Week 5 Recap
Directors Notes
"The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them." Matthew 11:5 God good our God is to us!
"Very young children should be trained to observe nature closely and to record their observations either in written form or in sketches."
How do you do nature study with your children? Or is something you want to start but have not implemented yet? We have a treat for you! We are organizing some nature walks for our community. We hope that is inspires us to get out of our four walls more and take the classroom outside. Nature study causes us to wonder and imagine. It causes us to examine and notice details. It causes us to ask questions about nature and ask what was God thinking. Do you take your sketch pads with you when you go out in nature? It is a good habit to get into. It is as simple as taking a short walk and stopping for five minutes and sketch what we see. It will be a treasure that your students will enjoy looking at for years to come.
This week at home for Foundations you should be reviewing week 1-5 Grammar with your children. We review six weeks back to help us keep the memory work fresh in our mind. If your child is going to try for Memory Master this is very important (more about Memory Master in the next weeks). Play fun games, sing silly songs, jump up and down. Parents commit to learn the memory work with your students. I promise you that your capacity to memorize will grow. The brain is a muscle, the more that we use it the more it will grow. It doesn't need to take long, you can review for 15 to 20 minutes a day. Continue your language arts and math programs at home and then read great literature together.
This week's history sentence matches up with Timeline card #108 American Revolution and General George Washington (same as week 4).
If you haven't read Classical Christian Education Made Approachable yet, I highly recommend it. It's a quick read and will help you understand the model of CC. It is also a great resource to give to friends who are thinking about homeschooling.
