Final Exams
CMS Parents and Guardians,
As some of you may know, the STAAR assessment format will be changing this coming 2023 school year. In the past the assessment has been mainly multiple-choice questions, this year the STAAR will begin including new question types within the test.
At CMS, we want all our students to have access and experience with the new format prior to the actual assessment in the spring. To prepare, we will be taking two benchmarks this year to practice and gather data. We will administer the first benchmark during our fall semester exams schedule. 8th grade will take Math, English Language Arts, Science and Social Studies. 7th and 6th graders will take English and Math.
CMS staff has decided to give the STAAR Benchmark for the above tests and use and average of the students test grades from the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd six weeks as their final exam grade. The benchmark will not be included as a grade, it is simply formative assessment data to help us prepare your student throughout the year. Students will have more time to complete these benchmarks during the semester exam schedule and this will help us maximize instructional time as well.
As always, we appreciate your support as we navigate new changes.
