Cedar Reader Remote Learning
Week of April 13, 2020
Message From the Principal
Good morning and welcome to Phase 3 of the Beaverton Remote Learning plan. My intention in sending you a weekly newsletter is to streamline the number of emails you get from Cedar Park and keep you informed about issues related to our school and students. I will NOT duplicate the information coming from the district.
This newsletter will be sent to families and students by 9:00 AM every Monday. As we move through the next 9 weeks of Remote Learning, we will learn together, be flexible, re-connect with each other, and support student learning. I will work to make our communication the clearest and most efficient I can. Thank you for your patience as I learn with the teachers and our students.
There is a suggested student schedule pasted below. This is a tool to help students and parents set a schedule, if they want. It is not required, as we know that every family's needs are different.
If you missed last week's newsletter, I'm giving you a brief recap of important information I shared.
What are office hours?
- Provides students the opportunity to get extra support from teachers.
- Not required for attendance
- Synchronous - Zoom, email, Google chat, etc.
- Teachers are required to host 60 minutes of office hours each day.
Will all teachers use Zoom or hold synchronous learning sessions?
No. Teachers have been instructed that all learning needs to accessible asynchronously, as not every student can access lessons at the same time. We know every household is different, and we need to be equitable in our expectations for student engagement.
How will I know what the work for the week is?
- Cedar Reader sent every Monday by 9:00 AM
- Links that take students and parents to materials
- Link to Cedar Reader found in email for parents and students
I want my student to be doing more work than is being provided.
- Guidance to teachers is established by Oregon Department of Education
- Estimated 4 hours of remote learning each day
- Supplemental materials are available: online resources
What about all the stuff my child left in her/his locker?
At this time, we are only able to accommodate technology, instrument, and medication pickup requests. We are working with the district to develop a plan to get other items left at school for pickup.
