Weekly Coaching Communication
Make it a great day -- every day!

On the Standards Front . . .
Jim Knight (not Gym Night) Instructional Coach 2-Day Training
With Formative Assessments, Knight breaks it down into a seven-step process:
1) Identify guiding questions (based on learning targets)
2) Develop answers
3) Write specific proficiencies (for the standard or learning target(s) within the standard)
4) Identify checks for understanding
5) Use the checks for understanding effectively
6) Modify teaching and learning
7) Revisit, reflect and revise
We all have our go-to formative assessment techniques, but here's a list in case you're looking for something different or new. I also have two books Classroom Assessment Techniques (CATs) for your perusal, as well.

Growth Mindset
Excerpted from Trevor Ragan and TrainUgly.com (click the link to access this article and others):
LET THE RESISTANCE GUIDE YOU
The items on your to-do list that freak you out the most are probably the most important.
The grading that you hate doing is probably the exact thing that you should be doing.
The home cooked meal is probably better for you than the easier, fast-food option.
The conversation that you’re dreading is probably the most urgent.
The initiative that’s the most frustrating will probably be the most beneficial to you.
The easy decision is almost never the right one.
Although we love the easy and safe, it’s usually best to lean towards the resistance. The hard is where the magic happens.
Start. Struggle. Fail. Fix. Learn.
