Peek At The Week
Week 3: September 11 - 15
Curriculum Corner
This week in reading we went over the ins and outs of reader's workshop time! Together we filled out a reader's workshop expectation chart, letting us know what that time should look and sound like. Then we filled the rest of the week going over the basic procedures: the organization of our classroom library, our book baskets, checking out books from our classroom library as well as returning them. I think we are all set up and ready to go for the start of Unit 1 on Monday!!
Writer's Workshop
Writer's Workshop this week looked a lot like Reader's Workshop. We also created an expectation chart to let us know what writer's workshop should look and sound like. Some procedures of writer's workshop we touched on are: setting up our writing folders, the writing center where writing paper and writing tools are stored, conferences and small groups. Like Reader's Workshop, we are ready for Unit 1 on Monday.
Math
At the beginning of the week we discussed the flow and expectations of our block. Then, we kicked off Unit 1. Unit 1 jumps really fast into a few concepts on math mountains and strategies for solving addition equations. Take a look at the math tip videos I sent out today to help your little one with homework at home. :)
Social Studies
We kicked off our first social studies unit this week! Communities is up first! This week we learned what a community is and talked about all the awesome things a community has to offer to its members. Additionally, we started our conversation on the 3 types of communities: rural, suburban and urban. We will continue to study the 3 types next week, along with a fun group building project!
