The Luck of the Irish
Ten more days of instruction in the luckiest month of the year! There are lots of important dates and nuggets in this week's Friday Focus, so please take some time today to read it. Thank you to everyone who attended the first ever #EdCampByran! It was truly an ELITE morning of UNconferencing! I appreciate you taking a risk and leading sessions and putting yourselves out there: #KidsDeserveIt
Also, thank you to 7th grade for planning an ELITE experience for their students! Way to rock it again: Mrs. Waddell is first place for Field Trip Queen. There's a crown for that!
Ms. Candi has checked through all schedules. If you have scholars who are requesting schedule changes, please have them see me in the office. We are limiting schedule changes and we are vetoing schedule changes for no reason.
The relentless effort and focus will pay off! #RTB

c. ALL instruction/teaching will be on grade level and standards based
d. Take a STAND for teaching and learning. Get up!
Openings are a critical component in your lesson design. Each class needs to begin with a clear opening that will start the learning with focus.

Please take time to complete your FLIPgrid! The link is here:
Due by Friday for feedback!
Lesson plans are due by 4:00 today! You will be getting feedback back this week on your lesson plans as a guide as you work through them.
CRITICAL:
Everything that you are exposing our scholars to is : GRADE LEVEL standards!
There needs to be alignment between your Standard, Learning Target, and the activities (Work Sessions) that you are asking the scholars to do.
DOK 1: Memorize(factual knowledge)
DOK 2: Thinking (procedural knowledge)
DOK 3: Strategic Thinking (strategic knowledge)
DOK 4: NEW Thinking (extended knowledge)
QUICK REVIEW of our instructional strategies 1-4
1. Instructional Objective: Have it visual, aligned, and reference it
2. Suffix/Root Words/Prefix: Have them visual and accessible. Model use
3. Gradual Release: I do, we do together, we do collaboratively, you do. How are you using this in your teaching?
4. Types of Text: How are you using both informational text and literary text
ALSO:
1. Collaborative Planning is made up of three buckets:
Lesson Designs
PLCs
Data Analysis / Digging / DUMPing
Learning with Liz times:
7th grade 8:45-9:15
6th grade 11:45-12:15

Think Abouts?
1. What data are you using to plan your day to day instruction?
2. Do you know the LEXILE of every child you serve?
3. What is the rigor you are exposing your scholars to?

7th grade is in the lead by a mile!
Here is how I would do it: Make five sticky notes (one for each day of the week), tally your positive phone calls/emails/texts home with the student name, add the number and name to the sheet. SCHOOL GOAL: Can we hit EVERY single scholar in the building with something positive? Each week, winners will be charted on the Front Entrance March Madness Board!

What I'm Reading.... (The •15)
Culturize, by Jimmy Casas
"Students are inherently the most important people entering our school building."
Period. End of Sentence.
Every staff member there needs to know that the scholars are the WHO. They are our most precious commodity. You often hear people talk about "know your why" and I believe that is incredibly important: but even MORE important is to know your WHO. My who are the 478 scholars that walk through that door everyday. I am promising the grown ups in their lives that I am giving them the VERY best we have to offer. When you think about your end of the day instruction, your interactions, your relationships, your body language (with scholars AND each other), your conversations....did you give YOUR very best?

Thought for the day: Regardless of how long the process of change takes, it always begins by acting, not deliberating. Change agents don't allow themselves to get stuck in the process #StartRightNow
