STAAR Testing

This year our STAAR test dates will begin a bit earlier than in years past. We are excited about the change, as it gives our students time to rest and recharge in between testing sessions. Please see the schedule below and plan for your child to be present on testing dates. As a reminder, only our third, fourth, and fifth grade students will be taking the STAAR test. Third and fourth grade students test in both Reading and Math; fifth grade students test in Reading, Math, and Science. Any student who does not complete the TEA-required STAAR tests for the grade level will be required to complete 30 hours of tutoring in each tested subject by the end of the subsequent school year. For more information, please reference Texas House Bill 4545. Please note that KME is closed to visitors on all testing dates.

Friendship Parties

Friendship parties will take place in each KME classroom on Friday, February 10th at 2:40 pm. If you would like to attend, please stop by the front office to preregister between February 1st and February 9th. Pre-registration eases the line at check-in and allows you to skip the line in the front office. Anyone visiting for a party MUST be listed in Skyward as an emergency contact for the student.

If you choose to pre-register, please be sure to keep your printed badge and your leave early slip and bring it with you to the party on February 10th. For questions, please contact the front office.

Let's Celebrate Kindness at KME in February!

Live to Give Mindset

The Live to Give Mindset teaches the importance of serving others while maximizing our own potential. It tells us that abundance in life is a cycle; in order to receive love, respect, and financial security, we must first learn to give those things to others. This mindset also teaches us that the greatest gift we can ever give is to find and leverage our unique genius to maximize our positive impact on the world, knowing that good things will be returned to us in kind. In the lessons for this mindset, we guide students to think about the impact they want to make and the legacy they want to leave.

Backpack Buddy Program

Many children rely on school meals for breakfast and lunch during the week but go home to little or no meals on the weekends. The Houston Food Bank’s Backpack Buddy program works to fill the weekend gap for chronically hungry children by providing nutritious, child-friendly food for children to take home over the weekend during the school year.
Backpack Buddy Program Application

Please complete the application if you are interested in participating in the backpack buddy program. You may turn the application into Christie Fernandez
