Weather Procedure and Snow Routes
Winter weather is definitely here! If you did not get a text message and/or email about today's late start, be sure to update your preferences using our Skylert webpage or connect with our office team for support. We want to be sure you have this information in the future.
You can find other information on inclement weather procedures and make-up days on our weather procedures and snow route information page.
Winter Weather and Clothing
At school, students go outside every day. With the cold, wet weather it's important they are dressed to be outside. If you need support getting winter clothing for your child, Jaymie Wakefield, our counselor, can help.
If your child tends to get wet when they play outside and are then uncomfortable wearing wet shoes and clothing, consider putting a spare change of clothes/shoes in your child's backpack so they have something warm and dry to change into. We have some extra clothes for students to borrow, but not a lot. Just put their extra clothes in a large plastic bag in their backpack. It's helpful to put your child's name on the bag. We will send home their wet clothes home in the same bag.
Reminder.... Label Coats, Sweatshirts, Sweaters, Hats, and Gloves!
PTA Afterschool Programs This Winter
Promise Kindergarten Starting on Wednesday
Promise K focuses on building basic academic and social skills to help qualifying students get a jump-start toward success as kindergarteners in the fall. Wade King will host a Promise K classroom this year and our own Tina Russell will be the teacher. We are excited to welcome our youngest scholars to school this Wednesday!
PTA Meeting, January 6th at 6pm on Zoom
If you have not yet joined our Wade King PTA, we encourage you to! You can join online. This is a great way to show your support for our school community, even if you aren't able to volunteer.
Student Leadership Team... and Stuffie Day
Thank You...
Thank you to everyone who contributed holiday gift cards for families in need. You supported several families within our school community. Your gift was greatly appreciated!
We also want to send a huge thank you to everyone who participated in our PTA's virtual auction in December. It raised $3016 that will be used to build our school garden. Thank you for your generosity!
The Salmon Will Be Back!
Can you tell where it is located in our school?
Do you know what will live in the tank?
If you answered:
* Our fish tank
* On the second-floor landing
* Baby salmon
Then you are correct!
Look for the eggs in the tank later this month. We will follow the journey of our baby salmon or 'fry' as they grow over the next few months.
Absences for Family Travel
There are a couple of holidays and days off from school in the next couple of months, and we know many families find it convenient to use those holidays and extend them to take family vacations and trips. We value family time and are happy when families have this opportunity to spend time together. Per district policy, absences for family travel must be excused by school administration so we can be sure that kids are not missing a high number of days and continue to meet academic standards. If you are planning on time off as a family, please email Stephanie Korn, one of our building administrators, to request that the absences be excused.
COVID-19 Testing & Vaccines for Children
Families have had many questions about COVID-19 protocols and vaccinations as we have returned from winter break. You can find always current information using this link to our district website.
If you can't find the answer there, don't hesitate to contact Alyssa Johnson, our school nurse or Jennifer Thornton, our health room aide. There are lots of different scenarios and they would love to talk through them with you. They are also able to continue COVID-19 testing as needed for students. Don't hesitate to connect with them!

Promise Tomorrow... Opportunity for 3rd-12th Graders
The Promise Tomorrow Initiative is back! This is project-based learning at its best. Students in 3rd-12th grade, across our district, work in teams on projects that envision creative solutions to transition to a better world. Their projects will take multi-disciplinary approaches to innovate technologies, designs, or plans that forge connections in their communities to create positive change. Student collaborative groups will work across grades, meet weekly online, and be supported by a volunteer and supervised by the coordinator.
Program registration is January 3-19th.
To learn more or to register please go to https://bellinghamschools.org/program/promise-tomorrow/
