Week of March 11th - 17th

Hello Riverside County!

Homeschooling can be rough when you first start out. The main question we help parents work through at the beginning of their journey is, "Can I actually be a successful educator to my children?" The short answer is a very loud "YES!" Many of you have actually heard us shout that from the rooftops, or possibly the tops of the slide at the park...anyhow, yes, YOU can do this. You were made for this! Confidence is key. Without it, you have a very big uphill battle to climb. Overcome your fear and remember that up until this point, your children have learned to walk, talk, tie their shoes, ride a bike and so much more from YOU, their primary educator! You can and will be successful the moment you believe you will. Your kids will see your confidence too! Stay positive, keep moving forward and adjust your plans as needed. A healthy, thriving homeschool is one that does well to bend and bow with changing needs and desires. Learning to be fluid in your homeschool adventure can aid in creating a continually prospering homeschool experience!

In this week's newsletter, we have a 'Curriculum Spotlight' on My Edu Crate! Our 'Vendor Spotlight' features Charis Equestrian!

Make sure to read about both in this edition.

Great News for Readers!

Inspire is excited to announce that we now offer Accelerated Reader for students in TK-12th grade! The cost for this program is just $20 per student in instructional funds and can be requested through your HST. Please note this program does not include books.

Accelerated Reader (AR) is a computer program that helps parents manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice. Your child selects a book rather than having one assigned to them and reads it at their own pace. This makes reading a much more enjoyable experience as they can choose books that are interesting to them. They may also read articles of interest right on the screen. When finished, your child will take a short quiz on the computer. (Passing the quiz is an indication that your child understood what was read.) In addition, when an LP meeting comes up, you can easily print up the list of books that your child read and share it with your HST.

If you are interested in signing up for Accelerated Reader, please let your HST know. They will be happy to assist you.

Physical Fitness Test (PFT)

The State of California requires all public schools to administer the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) to students enrolled in 5th, 7th, and 9th grades. Inspire’s Physical Fitness Testing window is February 4, 2019, through March 21, 2019. We ask that parents bring their students to a test location and stay at the location during testing. Most students are finished in about an hour (test time may be a little more or less depending on the size of the location). For more information, head over here and for locations click here. Please reach out to your HST if you have any questions about your assigned testing location.

Inspiration Station Booking REMINDERS!

Did you know that you can log into your account on Inspiration Station to view ALL of your field trip bookings?? Checking my account is a regular part of my "Field Trip Booking Routine". I check this by selecting My Account from the drop-down in the upper right-hand corner of the Inspiration Station site. Here you will find all of the field trips you have booked. I advise everyone to always double check the field trip you had just booked by checking the amount and names of the tickets purchased. It's a great time to also input the trip date, time, and host contact information into your planner.

Every Kid in a Park!

Did you know? There is a federal public lands youth initiative to get all 4th graders and their families to experience the places that are home to our country’s natural treasures, rich history, and vibrant culture.

To help engage and create our next generation of park visitors, supporters and advocates, Federal Land Management agencies, launched the Every Kid in a Park initiative. The immediate goal is to provide an opportunity for each and every 4th-grade student across the country to experience their federal public lands and waters in person throughout the school year.

Every year, beginning September 1, all kids in the fourth grade have access to their own Every Kid in a Park pass at www.everykidinapark.gov. This pass provides free access to national parks across the country.

The Every Kid in a Park pass is good for the 4th grade school year, until August 31, 2019. Information on obtaining the pass is available by visiting www.everykidinapark.gov.

This Week's Vendor Spotlight: CHARIS EQUESTRIAN

Looking for a way to add educational and athletic enrichment, not to mention character development to your child’s life? Try Charis Equestrian!

Charis Equestrian is a full-service equestrian center, offering a riding academy, Pony Club, horse boarding and training in the Temecula Valley focused on providing educational enrichment opportunities for students. Did we mention we are a registered vendor with Inspire?

Why add Charis Equestrian to your homeschool program?

Did you know that through horseback riding, students develop coordination, balance, fine motor skills, core strength and endurance, joint mobility and flexibility while improving their posture and cardiovascular health? Not only that, but it also helps improve self-esteem, confidence, self-control & discipline. Riders develop a sense of responsibility, empathy, and compassion - important life skills. All through the Charis Equestrian Riding Academy!

There are opportunities for everyone! Don’t own your own horse, but want to be around horses and ponies? Charis Equestrian is a recognized United States

Pony Club Riding Center offering the national Pony Club curriculum for those who don’t yet own a horse as well as for horse owners. All riders are welcome, all you need is a love for horses, a positive attitude, and a desire to learn.

Teaching Tip of the Week: Let them be the teachers!

A great way to gauge where your student is at and to help promote confidence in their ability to effectively communicate and share their thoughts is to allow for plenty of play when it comes to school time. Specifically, playing "teacher". Whether they set up a classroom and act out a day of school with friends and siblings or they sit you down to teach you as their one and only pupil for the day, this kind of play is necessary and useful! Change up the normal routine one day and allow your child to make the day's plans. See what they want to teach you and how they want to teach it. It will give you insight into what is on their minds and how they may wish to be taught. Additionally, even older ones can participate. Ask them to read to you from a great classic literature selection or to explain a complicated math equation. Better yet, have them teach you how to code, play a simple song on the piano, or play their favorite strategy game. Another idea that we have employed in our home is to write stories, songs, and poems together. Working on something like this allows us to be at the same level learning, growing, and creating together and makes it a whole lot more fun for the kids! Take a step back and give them the reins for a day and see where they lead you.

Have so much fun learning together!

Hi everyone! I am a mom of 3 awesome kids ranging in age from 10 to 6 years old. My husband and I are high school sweethearts and have been married for 16 years. Having homeschooled our children over the last 6 years in 3 different states, I've found homeschooling here in California, especially with Inspire Charter, has been a great fit for our homeschool journey. I am grateful for our ability to homeschool so freely and I aspire to assist other families with their own homeschool adventures!
