Bumpus SUMMER E-NEWS!
JULY 6, 2020
Bumpus Middle School
PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Bumpus Family,
Decisions about in-person school are still being finalized at the district level. The option to select virtual school has been extended to July 17th. By then, you will have a good idea of what the day-to-day operation of the school will look like. A platform called SchoolPLP will be used. It was purchased by the state and will be monitored by a HCS teacher. It is my understanding that it will require virtual face-to-face time with the designated HCS teacher(s).
Currently, students who select virtual school will not be allowed on campus during the school day. K-8 students will have to choose either in-person instruction or virtual instruction. Not all elective options will be available. It depends on what SchoolPLP has to offer. However, we will support those students who choose virtual school as much as possible so that when the opportunity to return to school arises, they will be able to transition to the band/choir or other school programs, such as Math Team, as seamlessly as possible.
I hope this information helps. I am in communication with our sister schools, Simmons and Berry, and we are planning together to do what's best for Hoover middle schoolers. You will have a good idea of what the Fall will look like BEFORE the July 17th deadline for determining whether you want your child(ren) to participate in virtual learning or at school learning. I welcome your thoughts and questions. I will do my best to respond to every email. In the end, I will do what is best for our 110 staff members and 1100 students.
Again, for K-8 students, it is virtual learning OR at school learning for the nine weeks. We will not have blended sessions for K-8 students. Stay tuned. Again, the information request sent out by HCS last week soliciting information about your desire for virtual learning or at school learning will be open until July 17th.
Please stay tuned for news from our district leaders this week.
If you plan to come into the building.
Please be prepared to wear a face covering and to have your temperature read by a handheld scanner. We also have hand sanitizer available. Thank you for helping to keep us all safe.

Hoover Public Library News
The Hoover Public Library has valuable resources. Here is a message from Katie Jane Morris at Hoover Public Library.
HPL is here to support our librarians, educators, students, and families during these unusual and often difficult times. Please help us spread the word!
Hoover Public Library WEBSITE
http://www.hooverlibrary.org/
This gives you access to our downloadable services, Katie Jane's daily blog post (which is filled with resources), and the help form. This is the best way to get fast answers from the library regarding important issues -- getting and using a library card, downloading digital resources, finding resources for children, getting book recommendations, using technology, doing online research, and more. A person simply gives their name, number, email, and request, and a staff member quickly provides an answer.
