Lower School Library
Database trials for staff - April 2017
Dear LS Staff,
As we near the end of the school year, it is time for me to make decisions about which databases to renew for next year - and which to potentially add. We have a few free trials at the moment for you to peruse, which you will find linked below.
We currently subscribe to Pebble Go Animals & Science, World Book Online, SIRS Discoverer, and EBSCO Explora. You can re-familiarize yourself with and access them here.
Please take a few minutes to think about what you and your students currently use and what needs you have in terms of informational content. Even if you do not have time to explore the trials, still let me know what you are using and if/where you feel there are gaps.
Thanks!
Natalie
PebbleGo Next Science
Each PebbleGo module is priced separately, so I am only considering Next Science to add. PebbleGo Next is geared toward grades 3-5 and has similar features to PebbleGo, including read-aloud options. Our trial has been extended to May 15.

Gale Kids InfoBits & NatGeo Kids
I am VERY excited about this trial! We are considering switching to Gale school-wide, perhaps to replace EBSCO (and maybe another depending on price). Check out Kids InfoBits and let me know how you think it compares. Our trial expires April 30.

TeachingBooks.net
This is a great literature resource. You can access some content for free (I use the author pronunciation audio clips frequently!), but the subscription offers so much more. Our trial has been extended to April 30, so do check it out - maybe based on what your students are reading now, or where you might want to go next.

FactCite.com
This is a collection of a wide variety of databases, with a free trial until April 30. Realistically, we cannot afford to subscribe to this - BUT, you can certainly use the resources until then! (Lynn, look at the great biography databases!) Not captured in the image above are also sections for Mythology, History, Science, Countries and Cultures, and a general encyclopedia. Feel free to share with students!
