Message from the Principal - Week of April 29

Teacher Appreciation Week

Next week is Teacher Appreciation week. As you know, our teachers work very hard throughout the school year to teach and support our students. It takes a lot of time, effort and love for our kids. I am so proud of our teachers. One way to show appreciation to your child's teacher, would be a note of thanks for all that they do. Sometimes, a note with kind words can make someone's day! Thank you for all of the support you give to your child at home and their teacher at school!

Appropriate Dress

It was nice to have some warmer days this week and kids playing outside. Reminder please that with the warm weather, students still need to follow the dress code. Please refer to p. 21 in the student handbook for specific guidelines. Some things we have been seeing are crop tops with bare midriffs. That is current fashion and just needs a cami underneath. Also, we have been reminding students to keep their hoods off.

ILEARN Testing Schedule

ILEARN testing began. Testing is a challenging time for everyone and additional support from home is greatly appreciated to help your student succeed. Getting enough rest and encouragement puts them in the right frame of mind. We thank you for all you do to suport your students! Please see the schedule below and be sure to plan accordingly. There are multiple sections to each test. Students will NOT be permitted to leave or enter once testing has started. Testing schedules may vary for students with accommodations. Contact your child's teacher if you have any questions.

Parent Requests

If you would like to submit a request for your child for the next school year, please complete the following:

  • Write a letter/email to Mrs. Tidd (tidds@maconaquah.k12.in.us) including your child's name, grade, and reason for a request.
  • Do NOT include a specific teacher as letters requesting specific teachers will not be accepted.
  • Do describe the needs of your child and the best learning environment for them to be successful.


Letters must be received by May 6th. Classroom placement will be available when fall registration for 2022-2023 school year is completed.

STEM IN OUR SCHOOL

Toothpaste and Chickens

Third grade learned about the minerals in toothpaste and made some! We also hatched a chicken in our lab!

Guidance Update

Students are using guided meditation this week to help re-focus themselves for ILEARN. This week’s meditation focuses on taking anger, fear and worry and “packing them up” to send them away so students can focus on the positives and work on the things they can control. Not to worry about the things they can’t control.

BRAVE Star Tickets

Students exhibiting BRAVE characteristics by following school expectations can earn a BRAVE Star Ticket from any staff member. Tickets are put in a bucket for a weekly drawing. Then students are able to come to the office to choose a prize! Students will also have an opportunity to qualify for Terrific Tuesdays by following classroom expectations. We hope to see so many students able to participate by making great choices and demonstrating BRAVE behavior!

Swim Lesson Information

If you are interested in signing your child up for summer swim lessons, see the information below as well as on the Maconaquah Elementary Home Page.

From the Nurse

ATTENTION 5TH GRADE PARENTS: Immunizations are required for 6th grade.

Now is a good time to schedule these with your doctor or the health department.

Your doctor and or the health department will be able to view CHIRP and see what your child needs. This normally includes a Tdap, and Meningitis vaccine, HPV is optional.

(For those parents who have already done this, your child does not require anything else at this time.)


COVID REMINDER: Covid is still present and we have occasional positive cases. If your child is ill, please either contact your physician or do a home test and let the nurse know if it positive. Thank you as we work to keep our children healthy.


If you are interested in a Covid 19 vaccine for your child, contact your health care provider or the Miami County Health Department. See more information below. Thank you for all of your help supporting our back to school guidelines. It has really helped to reduce our quarantine and postive covid numbers.

Water Bottles

Students are encouraged to bring their water bottles to school daily. There are water bottle filling stations to refill.

Computer Stylus

If your student has lost their stylus, it is $20 to replace. Students can purchase one in the Minion Office.

Bus / Pick up Changes

If you need to change your child's bus going home or that they are being picked up, parents MUST speak to a person. DO NOT LEAVE A MESSAGE as the staff member may not hear their messages before the end of the school day.

School Drop Off/Pick up

8:10am - Doors open for student drop off. Parents may drive up to door 19E to drop off. PLEASE DO NOT drop off your student before the doors open. This is a safety concern as staff will not be present until 8:10am.
