Notes from Principal Darling

Please join us for the Parent Forum on Wednesday, March 1st - 5:30-6:30. Child Care and pizza will be provided. If you are planning on attending, please reach out to Markyta at ablesm@arps.org to RSVP. We will be having an informal discussion about the new laws surrounding bullying and behavior, our Restorative approach to behavior, the new math curriculum and so much more. Again, please RSVP so we know how much pizza to order.

We have been so lucky to receive the 2023 Pelham Cultural Council Grant! The grant was written with our Art Teacher, Emily Stewart to bring the TANGLEWOOD MARIONETTES PRODUCTION to Pelham Elementary School for a performance of The Dragon King on May 8th. Thanks to this grant all students will be able to create their own puppets during Art class. Thank you to the Pelham Cultural Council and Emily Stewart for this amazing opportunity! More information to come!

MCAS are coming. Please see dates below. "MCAS measure the critical skills students need for success in the 21st century: deeper understanding; knowledge application; synthesizing; and writing. Most students will take the test on a computer reflecting the digital world we live in today." Here is a link for the more information for families.

A big thank you to Heather Sampson and Lincoln Smith for the amazing Winter Concert last week! Thank you to Yasu Suzuki and Ariel Templeton for joining our concert and helping the students. Congratulations to the Orchestra and Band on their wonderful performance.

Kindergarten Tapestry

Kindergarten read about Maya Angelou. They heard about what it was like to have your voice silenced because of the color of your skin and your gender. They learned that Maya had over eight jobs and because of it met such a diverse group of people from whom she learned so much. All of her experiences led her to become the writer and poet she became. Kindergarten created a tapestry, in response to one of her famous quotes, to honor the differences we honor and celebrate in our own classroom. "We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter their color"

PTO’s Treat Trolley

  • What is a Pelham PTO Treat Trolley: Once a month, the PTO wheels in a treat trolley for all teachers and staff. This is a fun treat for teachers and staff in the school. It’s a way to say: We see you and we appreciate you!

  • Thanks to 2nd Grade PTO Room Rep, Lin Tang., for organizing this month’s Treat Trolley for teachers and staff. Their theme was “Thanks for Helping Us Grow” and included plants for folks in addition to treats!

  • 1st Grade Families: The next treat trolley is hosted by the 1st grade on March 7th. Be on the lookout for communication from Anne on how you can help/get involved.
